Is there a sleep regression/developmental leap/growth spurt at around 9 months?

No, there is most definitely one at this time.

I have no links but I know someone who does.

Brill.

She is the best baby in the world bar none, but isn't much of a sleeper. Has been even worse the last week or so, I was hoping it wasn't the elusive rod everyone keeps berating us about coming back to beat us! We also picked last week to try reintroducing her cot (right next to our bed so hardly a million miles away) and it has not gone well, so perhaps will put that on the backburner.

Hi Ninkynonker

Yes! I posted about this a couple of days ago - my almost 9 monther has been a horror the last week - loads more night wakings, more fussy, clingy etc. Think we are dealing with a double whammy of teething at the same time also. ZZZZZZZZZzzz is so tiring!

prolificwillybreeder · 05/05/2011 08:35

Oh yes we are still living through it at nearly 10 months.

lalala not listening! DD is 9 months and has just started sleeping better, has had every other regression so don't tell me she's going to have another

Oh God, how long does it go on? I think we've just hit it. DS has had every other regression and the sleep just seems to vary between bad and appalling, and I've noticed these last couple of nights that we seem to be back at appalling. He's never slept as well again as he did at 12 weeks!

PS Waves to Zimm - did you get anywhere with your bottle refuser?

You know, I've not been over to sleep for ages but I should have been really. Blush

Yes, there's a sleep regression now and it's often horrible as babies are working on new physical skills (eg crawling) and teething as well as mental development.

There is a great book explaining it called The Wonder Weeks by two scientists who researched all the developmental spurts up to around 18 months.

They say:

"Your baby may start sleeping less well. Most babies do. She may refuse to go to bed, fall asleep less easily, and wake up sooner. Some are especially hard to get to sleep during the day. Others at night. And some stay up longer both during the day and at night."

The developmental spurt causing this happens at about 37 weeks, and there?s another one at around 46 weeks - the two can blur together if you're unlucky (I was). I found that things started to improve after that though. DS is 16 months now.

There?s more info here, here and here.

I'm just losing faith that things ever will improve. People told me they'd improve at 6/12/20/26 weeks. They haven't: they've just got differently awful. I'm pinning my hopes now on things being OK when DS goes to school, and if they're not, I'm leaving home.

My DD is almost 9 months. Sleep through the night from 5 weeks until 3 weeks ago. Had 2 weeks of waking 2x per night. About a week ago she started crawling forwards, cruising furniture and standing by herself. Also saying 'ra ra ra' and 'howa' (I think hello). All of this happened within 2 days! Now when she goes for a nap am or pm she wakes up and stands up in her cot and shouts for me! At night she moves in her sleep much more than ever and I think this is leading to waking as she's getting stuck. This is what I call a spurt for sure!
