DD has always been a good sleeper. DS was terrible until he turned one but for the last 4 or 5 months they have both been nightmares!

I have tried CC, laying with them, sitting on the floor, NCSS, letting them fall asleep on the sofa, Co-slept etc etc etc.

I am at my wits end. DD (nearly 4) fell asleep on the sofa half hour ago.

Ds (2) is still pissing about trying to get a reaction out of me. I'm shattered, and pissed off that they sleep perfectly at exp's but are like this for me!

What happened 4/5 mnths ago that could have signalled the onset of this?

If you have tried all those in 5mths, I think your problem is consistency to be honest. Find something that works & stick with it. There is no quick fix, you have to ride it out.

If they have been up for several nights until this late, it is likely they are over tired & can't settle themselves.

How do you know they sleep OK for exp?

And what is your normal bedtime routine?

What do you do when they refuse to stay in bed?

Are they napping during the day?

do you have a car that you could drive them around in (boredom being the answer a lot of the time).

They are probably doing this to you because they know that you love them in a way that will accept this behaviour whereas they are not so certain about your exp's reaction.

I know that I can never bath my two at bedtime (for example) because they have way too much fun and get a second wind - having said that it took about 3 years to realise this was a contributing factor to their crap sleep.
