Toddler bedtime routines - what works for you??

DD (almost 2) seems to be sleeping consistently better in the last few weeks - usually has a couple of good nights then a few more bad ones. Here is our current (for now anyway!) routine.

6.50pm - jammies on downstairs
7pm - upstairs for stories (normally with daddy if he's home on time) and to check if the fairies are awake (recently put up fairy lights on a timer to encourage dd to stay in the room until they come on in the morning). DD sits in bed for the stories and he sprawls over the bed to read them.
7.15pm - end of stories and time for teeth brushing - dd always has to do a wee dance on the bed before brushing (dont ask me why!!). Has a drink of water from a big girls cup and then its time to lie down and get covers on. Has a kiss from mummy and daddy and we say goodnight and then the table lamp is switched off and we leave the room.

The fairy lights go off at 7.30pm so sometimes they are still on when we go out the room and close the door (we open the door slightly when we go up to bed). We have started leaving the monitor night light on too and I dont know if that has helped her be more settled at night or whether it is a coincidence. She is also in a big bed and we also recently gave her a higher tog duvet so maybe that has helped too.

We also stopped having an evening bath as it was making her too hyper rather than calming her down. She gets a bath a couple of times a week in the morning instead.

Loving that idea of fairy lights.

My DD is about the same age, but we don't have a routine as such. Partly because I have 2 older DSs to get into bed and partly because I work 3 nights a week so I'm getting ready for work as they are getting ready for bed.

Generally they go for a wash/brush teeth at about 7.30, followed by kisses and cuddles (if I'm not yelling at them to get their skates on!) and they all go to bed at 8.

I love the fairy light thing too. If DD ever gets her own room I think I'll be stringing them up every where!
