20 month old trying to give up after lunch nap

Is this normal? My ds is not settling anymore when I put him down at 12.30 (used to wail but go to sleep after 10 mins)He's started undressing himself - yesterday trousers, today top and socks! and yelling at me to come and get him. Do they cut down on their nap before they give it up completely? He has always had at least two hours sleep before the last couple of days. I should add he also has an 8 week old sister if that has any bearing on this.

Hiya,
Im pritty interested in this as my ds is also 20months, and always used to have a nap in the morning for about 1 and a half hours. BUT, since dd was born 4weeks ago, my ds who was always a good sleeper, has stopped sleeping totally in the day. He wont go off no matter what we do for him, but by 5pm he will be so tied.
No advice though, sorry!

Around the 18 month stage, lots of babies start to drop one of their day time naps. Yes, they can just cut down gradually, ie go from a solid 2 hours to say 45 mins to nothing, or they just decide they don't want one at all.

When they are on the one nap a day, they'll do the same with this too until you have a nap free day, but the bonus is they should start to want to go to bed earlier in the evening.

Hope this helps!

Trouble is this is his only daytime sleep - he dropped his morning nap from 14 months. I think actually what he wants is maybe to go down later as he's waking a bit later at the moment. Yesterday he slept for two hours but didn't go to sleep until 1.30pm as we'd been out. Thanks though!

Hi,
I've just been through this with dd (21months. I eventually cam to the same conclusion as you and she now goes down about 1.00-1.15 instead of 12.30. Can't believe it was something so simple I've had weeks of her screaming etc for up to 45 mins before sleeping only for 30 mins. Seems to be back to norm now though at 1hr 20ish.
