how many naps does/did your 16/17 week old have/had?

Ds is currently on 4 naps a day which vary in length. The longest being 2 hrs and the shortest (which is the last nap of the day) being 45 mins. This last nap just sees him through until bedtime.

I feel like I'm constantly putting him to bed and resettling him when he wakes after the first sleep cycle. I feel bad for writing this because I know some people have much bigger problems with sleep than this.

Around what age do they drop to three naps a day? We are tied to the house all day because if he doesn't have a decent sleep ( he won't sleep in his pram Confused ), then by the time we pick up dd from school, he is sooooo overtired and I am unable to give dd the attention she deserves.

I sympathise - my DS was like this, and still has 3-4 naps a day at 27 weeks - usually 3 though. He wouldn't sleep in the pram for ages and it drove me nuts as I ended up housebound too. He decided he would sleep in there again about three or four weeks ago, which is fantastic - he can barely keep his eyes open in there if he's tired - though only if it's always moving, outdoors with traffic noise, and only for half an hour at a time, so I always aim for at least one longer nap in the cot at some point during the day. What sling are you using? Again, DS will only sleep in the sling outdoors, and where there's traffic noise, and we often have to block his view with our coats so he'll switch off and stop looking round at everything.

These alert babies, eh Hmm

My DS is 6 months and still needs 3 naps everyday. TBH he could probably do with 4 as he will not sleep for longer than 30 minutes whether he is in his cot, pushchair or sling Hmm

He has naps around 9am, 12noon and 4pm. I would say that he gets tired after about 2 hours of being awake, although if he slept for longer at his lunch time nap I think he could probably do without his afternoon sleep.

I think it all depends on how long they nap for as to how many naps they need each day.

DS is 18 weeks and takes 3 naps (although this week has been all over the place with his naps) - usually 2 longish ones and a short one late afternoon. I always feel bad if i put him down for a nap a bit too early as i feel i'm missing out on time with him. But you have to remind yourself you're doing the right thing and teaching them good sleep habits which benefits everyone in the long run. A tired baby is a very unhappy one after all. If yours still needs 4 a day then go with it for as long as it seems he needs it.

My DD is 18 weeks and she still has 4 naps a day- 30 mins at around 8.30, 45 mins at around 10.30, a longer one of up to 2 hours early afternoon and another 30 mins late afternoon. I have discovered that she always wakes after her first sleep cycle so I put her for her afternoon nap in the pram so I can rock her back to sleep. Other naps are in cot if we are at home, pram/ car if we are out.

Thank you for all your replies. Since writing my original post, ds seems to have forgotten how to go to sleep! Sad Here's hoping it's just a phase.
