It's 4pm - my baby is a hot mess - what can I do?

She is 13 mo old.She has a cold She missed her morning nap (we were doing school drop-off and she had 4 minute doze in the carrier), so went for afternoon nap at noon. Had trouble settling and only slept for 1.5 hours. Now she is clearly very tired, cranky - she won't sleep - how will I avoid putting her to bed overtired? How early would you/have you ever put a child to bed in this scenario (usual bedtime is between 7-7:30pm)??

I have in the past put DS down as early as 6-6.30pm if he didn't nap during the day. Normal bedtime is 7-7.30pm here as well. He would usually fall asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.

Normal bedtime 7-7.30pm here too, but his afternoon naps are currently nightmarish and i wouldn't hesitate to put him to bed ealier (6.30pm or earlier if he was ill as well as tired) if he was particularly grotty.

Did they sleep OK? or were they up for the day at 5am next morning?

No, he definitely wasn't up at 5am only because bedtime was earlier. He usually wakes up at the same time regardless what time he goes to bed. At the moment it's around 6-6.30am, used to be earlier.

Unfortunately, if he doesn't sleep enough/ at all during the day, he does sometimes get night terrors and they are awful.
