Has anyone successfully dealt with night terrors (baby)?

Unfortunately this seems to run in our family.

I think dd has had these since 4 months - she's now 5 months.

I thought it was just very upset night awakenings until I realised I could time it to the minute and it was out of the blue screaming with basically no build up. (first 3rd of the night, 60 mins in then sometimes 60 mins after that. It has to do with transitioning from a lighter to deeper sleep as I understand it (rather than a nightmare)

My nephew has had this also from infancy, the exact same pattern, my SIL let him grow out of it, around 15 months when his general sleeping improved. I'm not prepared to sit it out.

Having done a bit of reading about it for 4 days I've disturbed her sleep 30 mins into it and then 60 mins after that, it is working...how long should I do this for and are there any other ideas?

DD has them. HV recommended rousing her just before I would expect her to have one, not wide awake but enough to change the pattern of sleep. It's been very successful with DD.

She's quite young for night terrors though so I'd perhaps have a check with GP or HV to check it's nothing else.
