15 week old, has never napped in his cot, and struggles to get to sleep

Aaaaaargh, today has been crap, and ds2 is - quite frankly - doing my head in now. If he gets overtired he just gets grumpy and or cries the place down. This is what he's been doing since about 3pm today.

He has rarely soothed himself to sleep at bedtime, and we're trying to work on that. He can only get to sleep himself if he's in his swing or the car, and sometimes in his pram. As a result he's never had daytime naps in his cot - almost always in his swing. The problem is that even it is starting to lose its shine with him. I put him in his swing at the first sign of tiredness, or if he's already fallen asleep while bfeeding. But today, my god, he has fought and fought it. His eyes are now red with tiredness.

In general I'm not complaining, cos he - touch wood- tends to sleep anywhere between 9 and 12 hours at night. I just don't know what to do in the daytime any more. He's fallen asleep while feeding twice today but wakes up the instant I try to move him. The days that he does fall asleep in the swing he sometimes sleeps for hours, so generally there isn't a problem with him once he is asleep. But how how how can I get him to sleep before he gets overtired?!?! I'm genuinely losing it today.
