9 Year old on Vallergan for not sleeping

She has been unable to sleep properly for nearly a year now. She has been on Vallergan on and off for most of this time. Without it she crys and cannot sleep, with it she sleeps. We had parents evening last night where they told us her school work is suffering. She does not seem to be able to retain information yet works her socks off at school.

We have been referred to a Family Therapist but everything takes so much time. Was suggested that we could take her to a Paedatrician.

Any advice or ideas would be great as don't want her to fall even further behind at school.
