nap advice for a 15 wk baby please

Please can you let me know when your 4 month old baby naps and for how long? Mine used to have three a day with two short ones in the morning and one longer one at lunch but has started to sleep longer in the morning and is now all over the place. All naps are in her pram as she simply wont nap otherwise and just gets crankier and crankier. She has also started to wake up every other hour in the night (agh!).

So, is her night waking disrupting her naps? Or are the (currently chaotic) naps disrupting her night sleep?

What to do?? Am keen to resolve this as the near constant night waking is starting to take its toll.

Please let me know your advice for naps for a 15 wk EBF baby who fights sleep.

Thank you!

Sounds like 4 month sleep regression!

It will pass, but until it does things will be a bit all over the place! My advice, get rest when you can.

:)

Hey IMS - thanks for responding. I have heard of this but not really sure what it is.

She has now been asleep 2 hours. Would you let her sleep as long as she wants or wake her now? or after 3 hours? shall i forget a nap structure and follow her lead entirely? or would a consistent structure help her as this is what she is used to...???

If I had known this was going to be a long one i would have slept too!! Envy

I never woke my DS from his naps. I think at this age it's really important to let them nap when they want, I didn't even try to get a routine until he was 5 months. You have soooo many things that will mess up all your hard work, teething, growth spurts, sleep regression...

Now he's 6 months and its all fallen into place.
Before now one day he would nap alot, another day would be hell!!

His routine is:

7am wake up
9:30am-10am - nap (2 hours)

2:30pm nap(2 hours)

7pm bed
11pm dream feed
5am - feed
7am wake up

It took 3-4 days of HARD work to get him into this routine. I literally stayed in my pjs for the whole time! But it works. I honestly think that once you've cracked day time naps, the nights fall into place.
He was waking about5-6 times a night, between 11pm and 7am. EXHAUSTING!!!

Nap when she naps. That stopped me from going crazy :)

Our DD is 4mo this weekend. After a few weeks of staying in, a lot of shush/patting she now does 1.5 hrs sleep, 1.5 hrs after waking then 2 hrs after a further 2 hrs up, then usually any sort of nap around 3.30 or 4pm as we are often out and about then (first two naps in her cot) - nights are slowly improving and self-settling finally but inconsistently appearing!

i miss sleep - thank you! i agree. it's one step forward two back at the moment so will go with the erratic naps at the moment (making sure she gets enough in the day) and will work on self settling (in a no cry way, so will take a while but not in a massive hurry) so she can get her self back to sleep at night.

gummymum - thanks - very interesting. and congrats on doing so well with day time naps in cot with self settling.

DD rolled for the first time today and then burst out laughing at herself. i wanted to jump up and down in joy for her. the lack of sleep feels totally worth it. she's amazing Smile
