because since she has started doing this she has been a right moody so and so in the day.

she's starving all day and wont sleep for more than 20-30 min at a time.

i was waking her at 11ish for a dream feed but she was refusing it and waking by herself at 4. last 3 nights she has slept through until 7am

have taken her to docs to check for any signs of ear/throat infections but nothing showing.

in never thought i'd wish for sleepless nights

Are you ff or bf?

mumatron · 06/03/2011 09:58

she's ff.

she wakes up at 7ish and has a 4 oz bottle, then she just snack's throughout the day. she seems to want a couple of oz's every hour and half-two hours. i can never get her to take more than 4 oz in one feed.

up until she started sleeping through she was on about 4oz 4 hourly.

she was a bit better yesterday as i managed to get her to take proper naps.

I'm not sure about amounts that ff babies take. However, there isn't anything wrong with having smaller feeds more often. 4 hours is a very long time to go without food or drink (think about your own intake and remember the baby has a tiny little tummy). Some babies do feed every hour and a half to 2 hours. It is possible to feed on demand with ff. Certainly get more advice, perhaps talk to your HV if you think that there is something else bothering your abby but otherwise try to relax and follow her lead.

It might be worth changing the formula- DS was FF as we never got the hang of BF. He had similar sleep patterns to your LO. I moved him onto the next stage formula at this age. It is supposed to be more satisfying for 'hungry babies'. I found he napped better in the day and consequently fed better. I would also look at the teats you are using on the bottles. If you are still using the newborn ones try the next stage up- she may be wearing herself out sucking really hard. This stage passes quickly- I know it doesn't feel like that right now! Enjoy every minute Grin

MY DD did this at 8 weeks, although she was BF. She'd snack all day and then sleep through 8.30-6.00, wake for a feed then back down til 8ish, so similar to your DD> I would certainly continue with demand feeding during the day. It's normal for babies this age to want to eat very frequently, I wouldn't fight it personally.

i'm happy to feed as when she wants it, it's another excuse to sit and cuddle her! Grin

i spoke to the doc at her check up and she said that she maybe wasn't hungry and to try soothing her with a dummy or some water instead.

she's never taken a dummy and i obviously try too soothe her when she gets fractious. i don't just jam a bottle in at every whimper.

hv is no better.

thank god for mn!

Yes, I switched to size 2 teats at this age (TT bottles) found he'd fall asleep/lose interest after a few oz. Happened again at around 4 months. Hth
