Can you teach a baby to sleep?

My 5 month old dd is quite a reluctant sleeper, and a terrible napper. I can get a 20-30 minute nap out of her 2, sometimes if I'm lucky 3 times a day, but it's a real struggle. Even taking her out in the pram will only get me 30 minutes.

She's desperate to go to bed by 7pm, but once changed and fed she is still reluctant to just shut her eyes and sleep. And when she wakes in the night for a feed it takes a long time to get her back to bed without tears.

A few months ago we took a few nights of crying, shushing and patting to get her to go into bed drowsy and go to sleep. Then we had a 2 week trip to Australia and it's all gone to pot. It's no longer jet lag that's bothering her, but she just won't sleep

Any ideas????

I read a really good boook called "Teach you child to sleep" - got form local library but can get from Amazon. My DD2 was a terrible sleeper in the day up until about 7 months (after I had implemented the advice from the book and has now started to sleep through the night at 14 months. It won't last forever (although I know it feels like it will at the time).
Try the book and see how you get on?
