4 week old and 2.7 year old - what to do with day naps?

Hi all,

DD2 is 4 weeks old and starting to become more wakeful during day. On days that we're out and about to take DD1 to nursery etc she sleeps in the pram and has regular sleeps throughout day.
DD1 2.7yo and constantly squeels and shouts while playing and prods and pokes her sister when she's snoozing in pram, (we keep it in corner of front room for naps) bouncer etc.
On days that DD1 home (weekends and half terms etc) baby seems to be awake constantly, snoozes a bit while bfing and yawns constantly, then this ends in a very fussy and screechy baby by the afternoon.
She then falls into a deep sleep early evening and then wakes up around 9-10 pm and feeds like crazy well into night. This only seems to happen on days she hasn't slept during day. Most days she'll sleep well through the day, then cluster feed in early evening til around 10pm, then sleep in 3-4 hour intervals during night.

Do I start trying to get baby to nap in bedroom upstairs with monitor or is it too early for all that? I'm not convinced that she'll settle away from me yet.

Hiya Tetty!

How you all doing? All good here but the same problem. I have resorted to the sling which works ok. sleep is definitely worse tho when the whirlwind is about! I have left Abigail upstairs in the morning while I get DD1 her breakfast. We cosleep so I can't bring her downstairs easily without waking her.

Blanche! Long time no post! LOL
Oh it's nice to know I'm not the only one having these problems! I just don't know what to do for the little one, she looks very tired in the afternoons if the older sis is home for the day.
I had considered trying to settle her upstairs but I don't think I'll be able to settle her very quickly and the question is what the chuff do I do with the little lady while I'm trying to settle babes?!? Hmm

How's everything going with Abigail? Lowenna has STACKED on the weight! She's gone from 8.15 to 10.7 in 3 weeks! Grin

Hi,

Cbeebies is your friend!

Abigail doing great, a little chunker too though I am a bit lax at getting her weighed! She had put on 1lb oz 10 days after birth though.
