Why are long morning naps the cause of early rising?

Just wondering if anyone knows what the logic of this is supposed to be? I've read it a couple of times and can't work it out. Would make sense the other way around... early rising causes long morning naps?

My DS is currently having one.

I'm not sure if this correct or not, but I recall reading something in that Ferber 'sleep training' book that if the morning nap is too early (rather than too long) the baby thinks it's an extension of their night-time sleep, rather than a separate nap.

So I think the theory is that they carry on waking early because they know that they'll be getting more sleep soon. Something like that anyway.
