Feeding to sleep- Daycare? Weaning?

I'd prefer not to discuss whether feeding to sleep is right or wrong- I've made my choice and am sticking to my guns!

HOWEVER, my DS is 8 months old now and I'll be returning to work when he's 1, putting him into daycare. I feed him to sleep for naps as well as at night and I was wondering what happens when it comes to him needing a nap when I'm not there?

My second question is, if I want to wean the babe completely from the breast, how do I get him to drink milk? He won't take a bottle and won't drink formula, though he does drink from a sippycup.

I'd really like to hear some of your own experiences with this!

DD was a feed to sleep baby. She started nursery at just under 1 & I also wondered what they would do, but they had a nursing chair & just cuddled her up & rocked her - she was out like a light in less than 5 minutes. They will have sorts of techniques & tricks at nursery for getting the babies to sleep - her little pal was also fed to sleep but they used a pushchair for her, rolling it back & forth. A good nursery will find a way - don't let them try & get you to change your routines in any way.

Re: milk, the recommendation is that babies use a cup from 6 months (and not a bottle) so you're on the right track there. Forget the bottles & stick to the sippy cups. Just be sure that they are the free-flowing type & not the ones where the kiddy has to bite on a valve.

Oh & DD was still BF went she went to nursery - I put her straight onto cows milk TBH, and she had water otherwise.

They do all sorts in nursery that they wont do at home the little devils. Don't worry about it - you baby will sleep and won't go hungry.

DD started nursery at 6 months and I had tried but failed to get her off breast and onto bottle before then.

She held out for a few weeks, BF with me early morning and night but only taking tiny amounts from bottle at nursery. And then she cracked.

Please don't worry about it. DD's nursery was staffed by teenage girls, so was worried, but they dealt with it with huge patience and it took a huge weight off my shoulders.

As for feeding to sleep, ditto. As another poster has said, your DS will do things at daycare that he won't do for you at home. My DD is 2.5 now and still like this, will eat food at nursery but not at home, and will drink milk from a cup, but only with cereal at home!

My DS is also 8 months and exactly the same, I am also worried about this but am going back to work in less than a month. Ahhh!
