17 wks - Screaming in her sleep, nightmare, teething, or something else?

DD has started to scream seeming in her sleep with no build up within a couple of hours of going down for the night. If I go in quickly and pick her up she seems to still be asleep. She just slumps onto my shoulder quiet again. If I am not quick enough she will properly wake herself up and will be quite inconsolable. Its scary to see she's seriously screaming, stiff as a board and shaking in seeming terror (not just crying)

I have stayed in the room and it still happens and out of the blue (not when stirring after her 40 minute sleep cycle or anything)

Doesn't happen later in the night or at naps. Its quite scary to watch she is stiff as a board and seriously screaming.

She is teething, I do use pain relief before bed, she doesn't have wind when I pick her up.

What is this? Any ideas, my brother had night terrors as a baby/toddler but quite a bit older, it can't be this can it?

My 14 week DD is doing this as well - she's also teething and I'm convinced it's just that. As you say, if I get there in time and soothe her she settles back down without waking. Scary when it happens though! Teething powders before bed sometimes help - but not always. Sorry I'm not more help but you're not alone!
