WWYD when they start to play in the cot?

DS is having lots of sleep trouble at the moment and I'm getting to the end of my tether.

For naps, he either screams when I start putting him to bed (overtired) and or starts rolling around and playing with his blanket (undertired?).

I try to wait until he looks tired before putting him down for a nap, this morning he fell asleep on the boob so I tried to put him down and he started playing in the cot.

What am I supposed to do?

Normally, we sit with him until he's fallen asleep, but sitting there with him whilst he plays really pisses me off (don't know why, might have PMT).

I try to be fairly relaxed, he's demand feeding, BLWing, naps when he likes, can self settle and be settled by others but naps are really beginning to wind me up because I know he's tired, and if he's tired it makes everything else so much harder.

What does everyone else do?
If he's happy and not crying would you just leave the room and see if he self settles?

I would leave the room if he's happy. I think having someone there to look at, even if they're just sitting there doing nothing, is a distraction that stops some babies from falling asleep. Boredom, on the other hand, is very sleep-inducing!
