My 1 year old is waking every night around 1/2 and sometimes at 3/4 as well. He usually wakes crying 1 or 2 times within the first hour after he first gets to sleep too. Understandably me and my partner are exhausted, we try to lay him back down and try controlled crying but a lot of the time have to get him out when he turns playful and giggly. We are unsure what else we can do?? he has recently been moved into a room with his six yr old brother but was like this at night before the move. he stayed at my mums last weekend and woke at 12 for 3 minutes and then slept till half six.

My one year old is similar... she has never slept through, we have real difficulty getting her to sleep (often she wont go to bed until 10pm) and then she used to wake up 2/3 times a night, sometimes she wants to stay awake and play. We have tried stopping her daytime naps (she takes two) but she just becomes really irate and it doesnt improve her sleeping. She always wants to be fed in the middle of the night and I know she cant be hungry.

Tried controlled crying but i dont think it helps; it didnt work, she became hysterical and ended up staying awake for 2 hours. Also tried stopping milk and giving her water overnight but this only lasted 2 nights as it caused her to wake every hour and tantrum!? (didnt even think 1 year olds could tantrum up until then!)
Me and my husband work full time and are absolutely shattered!

The one thing that did improve things slightly was we put her in her own room and made sure it was very dark and quiet, and when she wakes up in the night now we keep things really dark, and dont talk to her or raise our voices (whisper "shhhhhhhhhhh its night time", and this seems to have worked because she wakes up once now at about 3 which is ok

sorry about the novel :) Does your 1 year old go back down in his cot, or end up in your bed?
