how do u get an 18 month old to fall asleep on their own??

i just can't get my 18 month old son to fall asleep on his own. every night i have to stand in his roon untill he's totally asleep. if he even hears me sneak out it wakes him. wat can i do????

if I were you yes i would try controlled crying, but try just moving away gradually first.

I mean, night 1 stand 1 foot away, night2 2 feet away... so on til you are out of the door and down the stair.

thanks for that . i have tried that but as soon as he hears the floor creek he's up and crying, so i have to go back and stand there. i'm just worried i've left this controlled crying too late . i don't want him to not trust me.

I think you just have to let him cry while you stay in the room then, cos you can't spend your life standing in his room. If he cries when you back off, he's not upset, he's angry at you for not doing what he expects you to do. he will have to get used to it eventually.

It is soooo hard when they cry for you though.]

thanks for that. i gue4ss i just need to get tough. i just don't think i could sit through hours of him cying!

i would just leave him. have a bedtime routine, bathtime followed by a book followed by turning the light off and maybe a song then a kiss and goodnight.
