Is there a reason why you want to take it now? When I queried (when DS1 was 1.5) when I should take it away, my HV advised "when he can comprehend that it is gone and not coming back" He was 2.9 or thereabouts.

The problem is, if you have a 'sucky' baby, they will just find something else to suck, or will be upset and frustrated by the inability to suck.

If it is working for you, don't feel pressured to remove it just yet.

i was told by my hv that can affect babies speech when they are older and encourage them to stop the sucking and help move on with cups better

Ds is 18 months and still has a dummy (for now) has no problems with cups or speech. Your health visitor sounds bonkers 6 months is still very young to take it away imo

HV is talking crap. DD has one..there are loads of ones by MAM or Tommy Tippee that are approved. It helps against SIDS too.

Wait until she is al least 1. She likes it and makes her happy.
