my old routine - wakes baba at 9am till 1pm, have 2-3 hours nap, stayed awake till 10 -11pm..then bed

my new routine - ive been waking up earlier (for the past 3 weeks) in the week at 7 - 7.30am till 12 -1, have 1.5 hours nap in the day then later on she start to get sleepy about 7pm BUT as soon i give her milk to knock her out completely she wakes up and stays up till 10pm.

it doesnt make any different if i let her have 1.5 hours nap or 3 hours nap in the afternoon, she still fall asleep at 10pm !!

Could you give her her milk a bit earlier at about 5pm with her tea?

biglips , earlier milk a good idea- is it formula or breastfeed?, and put her to bed without the feed.

biglips · 20/09/2005 19:21

she usually awake by 7am and no i dont have black out curtains as i dont think i need them as she generally sleeps thru (not to mention teething etc)

might just be one of those habits you'll have to break over a week or two

biglips · 20/09/2005 19:22

Formula and i wouldnt put her to bed earlier as ive done it twice and she woke me up in the middle of the nite hungry - she had always had a big appetite

whn ds was this age he was waking at 7am, had morning nap 9am-10am, lunch 12pm, afternoon nap 1pm-3pm ish, tea at 5pm and bed at 6.30pm. All aproximately but you get the gist

biglips · 20/09/2005 19:25

i'd say 2 short naps in the. if DS 12 months doesn't get a small pm nap hes too tired and bedtime is a nightmare hes either grumpy or mega over tired and full of beans.

One long sleep makes him go in to a deep sleep and then get grumpy when he wakes then.

nannyjo · 20/09/2005 20:54

sorry that came out wrong, too busy watching holby city. i would recommend 2 short naps basically.

biglips · 20/09/2005 20:56

how short do you reckon? as she have now 1.5 hours in the afternoon

sorry i thought you said she had one long sleep but i didn't read all the thread. Ds has about 2 hour/hour and half naps.

It's all about trial and error though cos were all different.
If you do try a new thing don't write it off after one attempt though it takes a while to settle into a new routine.

Good luck

biglips · 20/09/2005 21:21

the only thing i can think of is having tea earlier

Hi biglips - dd used to be the same until she was about 6 months old and then we gradually changed it.
Now she wakes 7.30, nap of about 1 hour at 10am, nap of about 1 hour at 1.30 and nap about 5 for 30 mins. at all of these naps I wake her otherwise she would sleep for about 3 hours and then not sleep at night (tried it a couple of times not going there again!!). I have also tried cutting out the 5 nap but makes her really grumpy.
She has her tea at 6 and then bottle and bed at 8pm.

Good luck!!

biglips · 20/09/2005 21:32

BUT baba is so full of beans in the mornings as i know her old routine is that once she had woken up, she stay awake for average 4 hours and then have a nap for 2 hours, wakes up and is awake for another 4 hours then have another nap for 20 mins and then stay awake for another 4 hours then bed

her new routine is awake at 7.30am, is awake till average 1pm (been awake for 5.5 hours!!!) then sleeps for 1.5 hours, then awake till 10pm!!!

dd could keep going if I didn;t put her in her cot - and then she promptly falls asleep!! Is it worth trying??

biglips · 20/09/2005 21:36

well thats another thing i was thinking of as i put baba to bed early last nite and she just laid there awake and happy, but she suddenly was screaming her head off, gave her a bottle and was still awake but she went to sleep in the end (phew)

maybe worth perserving biglips - it took at least a week or so to change dds routine so you have to keep with it!! I know it is hard but it will be worth it in the end. Dh and I now get to eat together and have an evening to ourselves!

biglips · 21/09/2005 21:08

well baba had 2 hours sleep today cos we got up at 7.30 then we went swimming at 10.30am and got home at 12.30 - thats when baba fell asleep till 2.30pm then i found her fast asleep at 7.30pm (she had her tea @ 5.30 - 6pm) in playpen so picked her up to undressed her and give her a big bottle - she is wide awake so ive put her into bed now.. awake... let see what happens?
