10 month old tantrums at night?

Hi,
DS has just turned 10 months. After a good spell of sleeping from 7 to early morning (5 or 6) when he was 6 and 7 months, he has woken once in the night. I would give him a quick feed and then he'd go straight back to sleep until morning. However about a month ago this stopped working and to be honest I don't think he was hungry but it was a very quick and easy way to get him back to sleep.

A month ago though even a feed didn't really help so we decided to stop feeding him at night. DH went in and patted him back to sleep and for a week we had ok sleep. He was then unsettled by a week of bad teething when he was in our bed a few times and I'd feed him just to calm him down. But this week teething has stopped, so we've reinstitued the no feeding at night.

So this week his sleep has been all over the place. When he wakes we hear him fussing, and when it's clear he's not settling one of us will go in, at which point he basically goes balistic - he just sounds angry and is yelling at the top of his voice. And he can keep it up for ages (a good hour each time which is horrendous at 4 in the morning). I'm guessing he's annoyed that he's not getting a feed, but he's never reacted like this before.

Do we have to carry on to be consistent, or is there something else we're missing? I thought he was a bit young for a temper tantrum, but that's exactly what it sounds like.

Do we just have to carry on to be consistent,
