2 weeks ago DH used PU/PD to put DD 5 months to sleep in cot, first time without BF to sleep, first time in cot all night, and although was 45 mins of tired cries she went to sleep on her own, and has continued to do so since, shortest time being 10 mins which is a big step forward :)

However her night wakings have gone from at first waking at 1 or 2am for quick BF then straight back to sleep, to now waking 10.30/1/3 then finally 6am. Sometimes DH can soothe her back to sleep by rubbing back etc, sometimes she needs a feed and cos she is still little, 25th percentile, I never want to deny her this if she needs it.

But the last 2 nights are getting worse- when she wakes for a feed rather than sleepy, she is all arms/legs twitching, shuddering as soon as I move. Thinking of trying the dreamfeed tonight to see if it stops the 10.30/1am waking.... but she already has 5 ounces of milk at 6pm then another 3/4 at 6.45 if she wants it after her bath (usually expressed milk or formula as DH gives) so I thought she would have enough but maybe not....

HELP please.. I know we have improved massively but last few days definitely going backwwards..no teething or health issues that I can tell...

Could you feed her just before her bedtime then get dh to put her down ?
She could be having a growth spurt or just be waking cos she's in unusual surroundings.

Hi Devonsmummy

thats what we kind of do- She has full bottle 5 ounces given by me at 6pm, then DH gives bath, offers a top up bottle just before 7ish then puts her to bed. We have never given Dreamfeed because she seemed to be doing well sleeping from 7-1 or 2 but now I don't know...

bump-

can anyone else help with this :(

last night she went to sleep at 7pm (20 mins of fussing and 2 ounces from bottle even though she had, had 6ounces bottle 40 mins earlier) took dreamfeed at 10pm no problem then just awake at 1pm- shouting/tired cry but couldn't get herself back off so I ended up feeding her- then could not lay her back down in her cot, everytime tears, this went on til 3am then she came in bed with us, which we are trying to avoid.

anyone any thoughts?? could the fact that she is having 'comfort' milk just before going in cot meaning she is still associating sleep with milk therefore needing milk when she wakes??

just seems we are going backwards after 2 weeks of effort to get her to sleep on her own..

I'm not sure this is really going to help you but... I have to feed my 6 month DS to sleep as well, having said that we are at the point when I let him latch, allow him to suck for maybe 1 minute and pull him off and place him straight back in his cot. So I'm not really 'feeding to sleep' if you see what I mean. Sometimes I have to, but mostly I can put him straight back in. He will usually last 2-4 hours before we go through this again, but that is also slowly improving.
