2 yr old sleeping for up to 5 hours daytime nap

A friend of a friend's dd is 2yrs+ and naps for 2-3 hours most days and the other day slept for 5 hours in the afternoon and still went to bed and slept for 12 hours that night! Not that I am jealous at all (my dd2 sleeps about 11hrs at night and sometimes naps for an hour during the day - she is 23 months and is attempting to drop her daytime nap!
Would you be worried if yours was sleeping that much???

yes, thats mad, how could she sleep still for 12hrs? 17hrs asleep - 7 hrs up!! dont think so

I would worry as my ds is like your dd. He sleeps 8.30 till 7 and has to be forced to bed for an hours sleep in the day as otherwise he actually wakes earlier...I wouldnt know what to do if he slept that much in a day.

Yes, I would think she was coming down with something.

her mum doesn't think so - it would appear that she thinks it is okay and quite normal

Ds, 2 yr 2 mo, generally sleeps for two hours in the day (and 11 hours at night). But he's been known to go much longer - up to four hours on occasions. If we don't have to go anywhere I just let him sleep as much as he needs - it never seems to create any problems with bed-time so I guess he just needs it every so often.

gosh - maybe it is quite normal then and . I am just used to having a child who doesn't need much sleep...

is she sure that he is asleep all that time at night? he might wake up for a bit and just play for an hour or so in the night.
