my 4 month old has started waking in the night

my dd (4 mths) slept through the night from 12-17 weeks then suddenly started waking up. Sometimes once, sometimes twice. I have to bf her to get her back to sleep. I've tried dream feeding her at 10.30 but hasn't made any difference. Dh thinks I shouldn't be feeding her as she's obviously capable of sleeping through. I've tried settling her other ways but nothing seems to work. I'm just gutted cos she seems to have regressed! Any thoughts or advice anyone?

Babies change so much. Sometimes they need more food/comfort at night, sometimes less.

4 months is a classic time for a growth spurt and developmental leap. Once or twice a night is good if you have a read of other experiences!!

Someone, somewhere said you shouldn't think of babies' sleep patterns as being on a linear upward scale of improvement with "regressions". So many things change - teething, illness, hunger etc - that you can't say for sure that they don't need night parenting.

It will pass!

I'm sure it will. It's just that I've got 2 ds who didn't sleep through til 8 months so I was so excited about dd sleeping through!

DS is 1 tomorrow and no sign of sleeping through yet Envy

poor you Igglybuff. I suppose I'm quite lucky when you look at it like that! Hope your nights start improving soon.

Well he wakes up once which is good for me! So I'm quite happy with that Grin

My DD 17 weeks has been doing this for the last 3 weeks - from 5/6 hour stretches to now feeds every 3 hours at night - try checking the 4 month sleep regression threads - we are not alone and they make a lot of sense. Even tho they could go longer before it seems the developmental stuff/ growth spurts means things change all over again...feed, feed and wait it out seems to be the general message....sending sympathy - its hard feeling like youre going backwards! :(

Both dd and ds started waking frequently at this age - feed her if she wants feeding, it's classic growth spurt time. It will pass for a few months at least Grin
