Thirsty DS at night due to the heat?

My 6.5mth ds started sleeping through the night at 4.5mths (breastfed GF baby), but since the heatwave hit he has started waking again. It was so hard after getting used to sleeping again and so I started bringing him to bed to feed, but of course he loves that and started waking up more frequently. So now I have to work hard to get him back on his schedule but am afraid to do the cc in the night incase he genuinely needs a drink. He is only having a little water and juice at lunch and dinner from a beaker and I don't know how he would take to it if I tried to give him a beaker when he is half asleep. Any advice gratefully received.

Hello AussieSim - I am a veritable novice at all this so don't really have any advice just sympathy. My ds has been waking much more frequently and drinking much more than usual. He hasn't really been sleeping through properly yet but was going to around 5 am but since the heat has been waking up at 2.30 and taking 6/7 ozs. Last night he woke up spontaneously at 9.30pm - normally have to work really hard to wake him at 10.30pm. Like you don't have the heart to let him cry as he is such a good boy he generally only wakes me up if he is hungry/thirsty. Heartened to see that you did GF and he didn't sleep through till 4.5 mths - was feeling a bit of an outcast that my ds still isn't despite being pretty good on his routines in the day! Out if interest did he start sleeping when you weaned?

My ds is only 3.5mths BTW

In all honesty I would give him a few days off and give him water or milk, this heat is uncomfortable for everyone. He is only 6.5 months and you will easily get him back into his routine

Hi Lamin. My DS started sleeping through a week or two before before I started weaning. I wasn't feeling the pressure about him sleeping though because GF says that an exclusively BF baby will take longer - till 5 months old to sleep through. I never did the expressing she recommends (probably too lazy). I definitely wouldn't worry that your ds is not sleeping thru yet. When my ds started it just felt like he had decided himself it was time - regardless of all the effort I was putting into schedules etc .

We had a good night last night, although he is still drinking 5 times a day instead of the 4 I had him down to, having reinstituted a 9:30pm feed. He did wake at 2am but I got him back to sleep without feeding him or getting him out of bed and then he slept through till 5am.

I am serioulsy looking forward to some milder weather.

Glad you had a better night - I agree I can't believe I am saying this but I can't wait for grey skies again. My ds is all over the place at the minute and just snacked all day yesterday and today (and waking more at night sadly) impossible to get a whole bottle down him in one go but don't want to make him wait because I think he must be thirsty.
