My ds is 5 months and he use to nap fine, (only on my chest.. but still)at least 2 to 3 hours at times. I use to make sure we got one nap together ensuring his solid nap for the day. The rest were usually 45 min or so in his bouncy chair, stroller, car or crib. He gets 12 hours at night ( on and off for me but solid for him). Now, it does not matter if we sleep together, in his stroller or anywhere. He wakes after 30-40 min and know it is not enough. He still rubs his eyes, is cranky. Sometimes I can get him to go back to sleep but not always. And, its so time consuming, doing it all over again 25 min later to just continue a nap! Want a rested child, any advise?? :(

Same here,my DS is 18 weeks and very rarely (like twice)will sleep for longer than 45 mins.I can't remember when or how my DD started doing it but she was a thumb sucker so that helps.

Wierdly when he goes to bed (about 6:30) he never wakes up after 45mins,so strange.

As for the night wakings I think it depends on each baby.is he definitely hungry?are you feeding him regularly in the day?A lot of babies wake for reasons other than hunger.my DS is huge and he has a dreamfeed at 10:30pm and he is not starving for his morning bottle so I know he's not hungry if he does wake up.

my dd did this from birth until she was about 9 months and started crawling and wearing herself out! It did drive me nuts (esp as she has an older brother who needed some attention) but now (at 13 months) she will sleep a couple of hours at a time.
Sorry its not very helpful but I do think its probably a phase that will pass Smile

DS (6months) does 45mins to the minute here too! A real pain although atleast he's consistent so I know where i'm at. Only thing i can do is feed him back to sleep on our bed and that normally gets another hour or so out pf him...yet if i feed him at the start of his nap he only does 45mins. I'm in trouble when he starts rolling as i'll not be able to leave him on the bed.

Just wanted to post a message to say my ds was the exact same. It would be like clockwork he would wake up after 30 minutes every time. Whether he was in the cot, or the car or the buggy. I though he would be that way forever.

Then once he was about 8 months he did start taking longer naps. And I have a friend whos little girl was the same. I think they just grow out of it naturally. Sorry its not much in the way of advice. But they will eventually outgrow the phase.

It does have a bit to do with overtiredness though. My ds still wakes after 30 minutes sometime when he is really overtired.
