Any idea as to what he is doing and why?

My DS is 13 weeks and until 3 nights ago was sleeping through the night beautifully (bliss). However he has now started doing something a bit odd.

He rolls onto his front to sleep and has done for weeks, but now, after about an hour he starts grunting, sticks his bum in the air and wriggles. This then gradually moves him up the cot until his head reaches the top of the cot, which wakes him up and he cries for us.

We thought he was trying to turn back over, but if turned over he just opens his eyes, gives us a look, flips onto his front and carries on as before.

Does anyone have any clues as to what he is up to. This is now waking us 5/6 times a night, so any suggestions very welcome!
