had to share somewhere....

1 week ago, DS had never slept for more than 4 hours in a stretch, and more likely just 3 hrs between 11pm and 7am. Then all of a sudden, on Friday, he slept from 11 til 6.30 - I was sooooo excited. And THEN, the next two nights he slept from 7pm til 6 or 6.30am. Just like that. Last night it was 7pm til 5.30 - not so great. And (if the past is anything to go by) it will probably now get worse again and I'm not really under any illusions, but I'm just so pleased that he slept for a long stretch a couple of times. I feel so refreshed after those couple of nights, so even if it now all goes to pot again, I feel like I'm in a better position to deal with it. Plus, I now have hope - it can get better!!!

Woohooooooooo

How old is your DS?

Am very jealous! My 6month old DD does this for a few nights or so (since she was 10weeks) and then back to 2-3 hours- drives me mad! (as I am breastfeeding her and so if she is sleeping through my boobs will wake me up before her so I never get enough sleep anyhow- if she slept through regularly my boobs would adjust but she doesn't!). She hasn't slept longer than about 5 hours in weeks.

If you learn the magic trick to make this every night please share!

Well so far it has only happened 3 times (in the last 5 days) so I can't say I've found the holy grail, but given that it went from waking at 11 and 4, to not waking at either of those times within a week I'm pretty impressed. He was 6.5 months when it happened and I had given up all hope of him ever sleeping through before he was about 18!! Definitely might not stay that way forever, but my god it seems to be a massive improvement!!!!!

Good luck with yours Thandeka - when she's ready, she'll be ready... and she'll surprise you I'm sure!!!

well she has just started self settling for bedtime and naps so there is hope!

I have a 3yo and a 10mo and don't think I've ever had such a good night

That was me 4 nights ago. Although slightly less amazing, we had 5 nights of going from 6.30/7 till 3/4, minor resettle than through to 6.30.

Of course it has now all got to shit (not to rain on your parade or anything!!) but he's got major snot-boggles and the amount of drool that has appear 'suggests' teething (again) - so no surprise really.

However I am soooo with you on the hope it gives you. Makes the wakes a bit more bearable than before when he'd never gone longer than 4hrs!

Don't worry - am not counting on anything. Teething is just round the corner. He woke at 4.30 last night anyway. But I'm still getting waaaay more sleep than I was a fortnight ago. Small steps etc etc.
