Any ideas on how I can get my son to poo in the day only!!? He never used to poo at night but recently is waking earlier and without fail there is a poo to greet me! This morning was 5.40 and I changed him and gave him a bit of water and he went back to sleep until 6.30 (I didn't!). It is difficult to pin point what has caused this changed..I have recently stopped the dreamfeed..he is having more solids now and I am moving across to formula from breastfeeding ..he is now just having the morning b/f...so could be any of those things!

Anyway...I have being reading up and seen suggestions about not giving any fruit apart from at breakfast time and to make sure he is having enough carbs both which I am doing and haven't made any difference!! Does anyone have any suggestions on food which I can give to encourage more regular pooing!!? (Vaguely remember prunes being mentioned?). I know this is probably just a phase but would welcome any advice as I am very shattered and very low about this.

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one going through this..sorry I know that isn't much help to others but it gives me some comfort to know I am not the only one as I always think people think I am mad when I mention this problem as I know it isn't earth shattering...it's just exhausting! Anyway..my latest plan is to give protein meal at tea time which fits in with our family anyway as we have the "big" meal in the evening. I did it yesterday and no change this morning but didn't expect any change but this morning he has already done 2 poo's so maybe he will be able to get one more in before bedtime which would be positive. Fingers crossed!

Well no poo this morning but still woke at 6am ! To be expected I suppose as would be a miracle to get him sleeping back until 7 straight away. Gave him his milk and back to bed..not sure if he went back to sleep though as kept hearing noises. Anyway...the two things different about yesterday were the protein at tea time and that he didn't have weetabix or ready brek for breakfast...he just had the end of a packet of breakfast cereal that he had in the earlier days of weaning. Run out of that though so will try ready brek again today and keep doing the protein at tea time to see what tomorrow brings. I think the problem will come when I get a few mornings of no poo but still waking at 6am out of habit and wanting his milk...any ideas what I do then? Tried giving him just water before and he not impressed so I could give him less milk or dilute it (not done that before...how does that work?) Anyway..that is along way off...I should be happy with the little successes first!!

i know it makes me feel normal too to hear other babies are exactly the same. people who have already been through it seem to forget how tired they were..

well yesterday was a bit messed up for us as we were travelling to the airport at normal afternnon feed time and so baby didnàt have dinner until 7pm...whoops. she was also given a biscuit by her granny when we arrived so won't get back to proper routine or know how the new routine is going for a couple of days - however no poo this morning yet despite late food.

for the milk idea: i think, when she wakes before 7am i'm going to try offering her less and less milk until she goes back off without it or with just water if she's actually thirsty..being over positive..maybe..maybe they won't wake if they are not thirsty?

hi just wanted to say that its seems to be working yea!!baby is having; milk, yogurt and baby biscuits for breakfast, a massive lunch of veggies bread crusts(this week some meat)fruit puree and water ever fruit we're eating (just to taste) then bread crust (used to be called bicky pegs) puree for dinner and milk before she goes to bed around 8:30 - 9:30 and she's sleeping through till 8am and pooing in the evening. she oly wakes up around 5pm if she's hungry because we've taken her out late for dinner with friends.

so fingers crossed it lasts.

sorry. can't seem to find my way around this site. my 9 month daughter has started to wake at 5.30 am and cries until we go to her room and put the dummy in and give the day time sleeping blanket. she sleeps well in tyhe day with naps etc, eats well, poos well, gooes to bed happily etc. we are a bit worried that after a week of putting in the dummy it's starting to become a habuit and that she won't settle again. not always a nappy issue either as she has tended to stop pooing at night.......
