I think this chalet hotel used to be available through Mark Warner but this year is through Esprit. Anyone have any experience good or bad that they wish to share?

bumping for you

popmum · 31/12/2008 18:33

idon't but we are going in a couple of weeks.....! (with esprit)

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 01/01/2009 17:43

Hi Popmum. We are thinking of booking with Esprit too. I am torn between luxury in Belle Plagne and easy slopes in Alpe d'Huez! Have you been to the region before? Why did you choose that hotel in the end?

I have booked with this Hotel for 11th Jan, popmum are you going that week?

I have been to Alpes DHuez and La Plagne before, we went for this as it was cheaper than Belle Plange and stil almost ski in ski out.

We went to Val D;isere last year and it was fab, but the lift ws 200 - 300 m away and I am lazy!!

popmum · 06/01/2009 18:51

therealmrs - we've been all over france! and have been to alpe h'huez before (has a very memorable ski lift that goes along flat, then down down down into a virtual point, then up the otehr side, honestly the bit when you see where it is going is heart in the mouth stuff!). Think like many french resorts it has it all - of couse plagne is also v. good! Tignes/ Val our fav! Friends have been to belle plagne in summer and were impressed though concerned the restaurent whne the hotel was full may be too small.

crunchie - no we are going the week after you! We got such a good deal with the kids - virtually free (apart from childcare).

Am just bracing myself for the cost of my chocolat chaud! (ouch)

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 06/01/2009 18:56

thanks Popmum........given my extreme fear of heights I am very pleased we have now booked with Belle Plagne given your ski lift description! DH thinks its hysterical that I try and plan our trip around the availability of button lifts. I am fine whilst my feet are on the ground - don't care how high I am but have a total panic attack in chair lifts . I know, its a stupid thing because there is no way I can avoid them in resort!

and we have the opposite issue as my sister (who's coming with us) is a boarder so we have to avoid the button lifts!

Don't go to sauze d'oulx in italy - they have (or had) a lift which went over bare rock across rather than up or down the mountain and you sit on your own and it is unsupervised!! You have to cling on to the chair as well as all your skis/poles/hats etc. And you virtually have to do it otherwise its a horrible red! this is it!

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 06/01/2009 21:09

Popmum: oh my god ........I feel ill!!

lol - I've been on that lift and couldn't stop laughing at us all sat there by ourselves!!

Sorry, can't add anything to the op though

Hi there,
We've just missed our booked ski holiday 'cause my little girl got chicken pox the day before we were due to leave. We're now looking for a replacemnet holiday and the Mariandre at Alpe d'Huez seems like a possibility. I see a coulpe of you went there earlier this year and wonder what you thought of it. I have a 4 and 8 year old.

Crunchie · 12/02/2009 20:23

brilliant, loved it great location. Nice bar etc

Bibury · 15/01/2010 12:53

would love to hear if anyone has anything more to say about this - although TOO LATE, really, as have booked it for a week and a bit's time. love Alpe D'Huez (apart from the Scare Chair!) but this chalet hotel is new to us.
thanks

bilbury, ha just saw this thread and thought 'oh I've been there' and now see I've contributed already - the hotel was great last year - good location and friendly staff. How old are your children?

Bibury · 02/02/2010 12:04

thanks, popmum!
we went this year, just back, and had a great time!
