Recommendations for a reliable ski travel agent for half term for short trip

DH and DS want to go skiing for a few days next half term. I wondered if anyone can suggest a small but good ski travel agent that can take care of sorting arrangements for them?

You can try Igluski.

We used Heidi a couple of years ago and they were good.

The main challenge is transfers (Heidi sorted). This was a trip to Sestriere with a flight in to Turin so the transfer wasn't long.

You may find accommodation restricted in half-term as many owners will want full weeks.

Places like Morzine/Les Gets/Samoens are easy for transfers as there are many transfer companies.

Has DH skied before - in which case he will know how things work in a ski resort and won't really need a travel agent (by which I assume you mean a Tour Operator) to sort out things like ski rental, lift tickets and ski school. Organising the travel and accommodation is also fairly easy these days.

There are numerous resorts within easy reach of Salzburg airport, and transfers can either be by shuttle taxi (the airport website has a list of shuttle services) or by free public transport.

Easyjet/Jet2/Ryanair/BA fly to Salzburg, then take public transport or a shuttle taxi to the resort. Accommodation can be found on the the resort websites (e.g. Saalbach.com), or the usual accommodation sites (Booking.com, airbnb, VRBO etc) and even the most basic B&B/Pension will be clean and comfortable or look at apartments, apart-hotels or full service hotels.

One issue already mentioned is that many accommodation providers will want to have bookings for a full week, so finding somewhere that will accept a short-stay booking might be more difficult. The UK Tour Operators also mostly organise weekly trips running Saturday to Saturday. Staying just outside of the main resorts may open up more availability - for example, stay in Maishofen or Bruck for Zell am See, or Viehhofen for Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Other places to consider, all within 90 mins of Salzburg include Leogang, Maria Alm, Lofer or Rauris.

I always go independently. Would that be an option? If so I can post a few suggestions.

What exactly do you mean? Flights, transfers, accommodation and help with ski hire? I've used crystal ski, neilson and igluski before which provide all the above. I think all/most had a rep who could also advise on day trips to nearby resorts and other option activities like pub crawls/dog sledging/meals out etc. I've only ever been for a min of 7 days though, so unsure if they also provide shorter trips?

Some companies specialise more in chalet type accomodation but from memory, the 3 above had the option of self catering, half or full board.

We usually ski in the southern French alps. The best airport is marseille where you can get a hire car. We then drive up to one of Les Orres, Vars, Puy St Vincent or Serre Che. Half term is busy but you should be able to find something in AirB&B or booking dot com. If you are prepared to stay in the valley and drive up each day there’s going to be more accomm options, but obvs it’s more faff.

Lift passes, ski hire, lessons are easy enough to book locally once you’ve found accommodation.

This company sorts everything out for you https://www.skiweekender.com/ for a short break. The only downside is that the resorts are relatively low so lack cover if the season isn’t good. If it’s for Feb half term though they should be ok.

Ski Independence are great if they don’t want to DIY and I never felt I was paying over the odds when I travelled with them.
