We want to being the dc age 10 & 11 to a resort with a great ski school for beginners (3 hours per day) slopes where tobogonning is allowed, ice skating, cheap equipment & lift passes... Looking to go with Crystal. Can't afford Austria or France.. Would Italy be good? All suggestions welcome!

Just checked my costs spreadsheet as we book separately, ours is coming in about £3k for Austria but no ski school. (Just on case you wanted a comparator?)

My kids learned to ski in Scotland. Excellent instructor, taught the U.K. Paralympic team! It's not flashy in facilities but they had fun, hotel had excellent facilities

@livingthegoodlife I think we're going to go for it! The lady in Crystal explained the reason it's cheap is that there's a free child's place & these go quickly. She's holding it until midday tomorrow!

Skiing in Scotland can be good but it's rare to get a full week of good conditions and open lifts. The cost of a lift pass is also similar to some European resorts for a much smaller area and accommodation is also not cheaper.

Skiing in Scotland does mean you can ski pretty much anywhere as you generally cope with bad visibility, ice and rocks quite often.

We ski often as we live near some of the resorts but still go to Europe

Alpe d’huez has everything, except for being in France.

I wouldn't plan a week skiing in Scotland, last minute weekend at a push. Never guaranteed snow and often the winds can be horrendous.
None of the areas are particularly big and someone really needs to drive to and from the slopes.

check out bettmeralp in Switzerland. Car free, beautiful, same kind of area / place as zermatt but cheaper and less busy
