Austria skiing

Meant to heading off to Austria on the 17th December. We booked direct (yes, in hindsight mad) and we won’t get a refund if we don’t go. Anyone else still heading off to Alps this xmas, or are we really stupid? It looks like Austria will be coming out of lockdown tomorrow.

Ha! You’re welcome.

Sorry please ignore previous post, kids distracting me.

@havanananana thanks for the clarification. I'm following closely. We are driving to Austria (live in Germany) and even though its not far I'm still worried. We've been jabbed and boosted and kids under 12 so fulfil all the criteria and it's a border I've crossed many many times but things just worry me. Are there long and thorough border checks currently coming from Germany. My husband reckons im worrying over nothing and that I'll make us spend 300€ on pcr tests that we don't need and won't actually be checked. I should probably relax

Havanananana · 20/12/2021 16:03

@NoKnit

The new restrictions only came into force today. There are no reports of traffic queues at the border on the radio or on the internet, but today is probably not one of the busy days for tourists arriving for Christmas in the ski resorts. Later in the week it might be different.

We are due to fly Austria on 1st Jan to ski. My DH and I are triple jabbed and we have 2 DD aged 12 and 11. Our 12 yo is single jabbed and had Covid in November. We have linked her NHS records to our NHS apps so can show her vaccine and her positive PCR result. It doesn’t generate a QR code for her though. Will she still need to do the testing for tourist ninja pass? Thank you!

Havanananana · 21/12/2021 10:12

She needs a negative PCR test anyway in order to start the Ninja Pass - otherwise if she can't get tested in resort until Monday 3rd and has to wait all day for the result, she might not be able to ski before Tuesday.

If she has a PCR test in the UK, she can hopefully get an antigen test (with immediate result) in resort on 1st or 2nd Jan. so that she can ski. The Ninja Pass only works if you manage the tests and make sure that they overlap - and you'll need at least 2 PCR tests for the Ninja Pass and a PCR test before you return to the UK.

Apparently bad news coming in that Austria is going to announce quarantine for British arrivals shortly…

Rool · 21/12/2021 17:01

Thank you.

Caspianberg · 21/12/2021 17:07

Yes quarantine from 24th ( evening I think). 10 day, can be reduced to 5 day with additional pcr test.

LoobyLou2709 · 21/12/2021 17:31

Absolutely gutted if this is true, have been so on edge for the last 8 weeks not knowing! I finally packed today thinking we would actually get there! We are arriving 24th morning though so not sure if this will make any difference

www.kleinezeitung.at/oesterreich/6077027/Wegen-OmikronVariante_Oesterreich-koennte-die-BritenFlieger-stoppen

This seems to say announcement due Wednesday, and from Friday 24th. Entry only for Austrian residents and EU citizens, both who will have to quarantine. Regardless of vaccination status

LoobyLou2709 · 21/12/2021 18:40

@Caspianberg how did you find out it was from the Friday evening? Our host has just phoned me (he's amazing!) and thinks it's from midnight Thursday/early hours Friday. In which case we will try and change our flights.

Caspianberg · 21/12/2021 18:52

@LoobyLou2709 - sorry I can’t see that on the article above. But local radio seemed to say later, but I think it’s more likely midnight on 23rd. So all 24th.

NoKnit · 21/12/2021 19:12

I read the article and just wanted to confirm /expand EU citizens are still allowed to enter Austria, but if they have been in the UK then they have to quarantine. Initially I thought it meant all EU residents and had such a slight panic.

This isn't the slightest bit unexpected though with the rise of cases and spread of omikron in the UK.

LoobyLou2709 · 22/12/2021 13:30

Does anyone know anymore about Austria? Or when the announcement will be today? We are packed and heading to the airport tomorrow ready to fly early Friday. I hate this not knowing! 😫 couldn't get any flights for tomorrow they sold out so quickly so guessing everyone had the same idea!

Caspianberg · 22/12/2021 13:40

@LoobyLou2709 - they were supposed to do live announcement at 1pm today, now delayed to 2.30pm. It’s currently 2.38pm
So you should be able to find out more within an hour or so online

Seems if you have three vaccines and pcr then no quarantine from uk

LoobyLou2709 · 22/12/2021 14:53

@Caspianberg thank you! Amazing, our host has just phoned me Grin

jb23newmum · 22/12/2021 16:20

Does anyone know the rules for a 12 year old if they are double vaccinated ? Thanks

TheGodWorm · 22/12/2021 17:11

Anyone know what happens with an 11yo? Obviously unvaccinated

silverbubbles · 22/12/2021 17:18

Re: very recent changes with entry to Austria can some one throw light on what double jabbed 16 yrs olds now need to do?

I have a pre entry PCR lined up but am not sure if the recent changes mean that a double jabbed teen (no booster) now needs a Ninja pass?

Havanananana · 22/12/2021 17:40

@TheGodWorm

Nothing has changed for under 12's. If the adult they are with meets the criteria (2 vax + booster + PCR) then the child can enter Austria

Havanananana · 22/12/2021 17:43

@silverbubbles

I'm still trying to find the clear rules for 16 year olds, but as the Ninja Pass is only for children aged 12 to 15, this will not be an option for your teen.

Rool · 22/12/2021 19:37

Do 12 year olds have to be triple jabbed to enter without quarantine? That is my understanding but just checking before we cancel the holiday!
