Childcare in Morzine?

Hello
We are going to Morzine in a couple of weeks, first skiing holiday since baby. Going self catering in apartment with 2 other couples, our 15mo is only child.
Originally we planned to book him into French nursery for the week but when it came to it didn't feel comfortable leaving him in a nursery I'd never been to (although had good recommendations) plus you have to book a full week and we would like to spend some time with him while we are there.
So we decided DH and I would just alternate days on mountain with days looking after DC, which is fine but it would be nice to have 1 day to ski together....so have been looking at nannies but again not so comfortable leaving DC with stranger.
Has anyone done this? How did it go?

Personally I think you should go with the nursery option if it's been recommended. I always take personal recommendations for childcare very highly, and even though you have to book the week, it'll probably be just as expensive to hire a private nanny for a couple of days. Plus he'll have lots of new faces to look at!

It's a holiday for you all, so perhaps you could spend the first day all together, then 3/4 days you and DH together and then a day each on your own, not feeling guilty if you choose to go for a pamper session and leave your DS in nursery!

It's a holiday; they're expensive. Make the most of it, because you'll be back to reality in no time! Thanks

Also, with a nursery you DS will more likely 'take' to one of the staff as there are more of them iykwim?

We regularly use jackfrosts in the Portes de Soleil region. The owner have lived in Morzine for years and she is very nice. We have her babysit for us and a number of her nannies look after our children. They are quite flexible depending on availability and we have only had very positive experiences. You can meet the nanny when you get there and see how you feel.

Thanks for the responses. I have emailed the French nursery, I think it may be too late to book there now but can't hurt to ask for more info.
I have looked at Jack Frosts and a couple of other childcare companies. Misty- Did you book in advance or can you go meet them and book while you are in resort? We aren't going in school holidays so hope this means childcare will be less booked up (or is this a bit optimistic?)

I usually email in advance to let them know my requirements. I have usually been quite flexible and only wanted an odd afternoon, morning or full day rather than a full week so she has managed to juggle schedules to suit. I wouldn't wait until you get there as she will plan her teams time and those not working full time have other part time jobs along side their nannying. She will do her best to accommodate you if she can.

Hi, I used the French nursery in Morzine (L'Outa I think) 2 years running when my little boy was 11 months and 23 months and was very impressed. We just booked him in for the morning so we had time with him in the afternoon. Great facilities, really clean and staff very friendly and mostly english speaking to some degree. They gave me a sheet when we collected him explaining what he had done, eating, nappies etc in the same way his nursery did here in the UK.

Hi Oliver, thanks for you response. Thats reassuring as I have booked him into L'Outa for a couple of days midweek. They sounded nice on the phone though we spoke french, but I would guess they would speak french to the pre-verbal kids anyway....
How long did you stay with him on the first day? Did you book meals or take in food for him?

Not used it but looked at a nursery in Moraine last time we were there. Can't remember the name sorry but it was central on the route of the town bus and had an outdoor area - it looked good and would be happy to try it.

Hi, I stayed for about 10 minutes, the first year we was too young to be bothered, the second year they would try to get him involved in an activity so I could sneak off. I know he had lunches but was/is a fussy eater so didn't eat much but as we picked him up at lunchtime and they told us what he had eaten I knew to get him lunch. I think but I'm not certain that I took a snack for him. Hope this helps! Time moves fast, just booking his ski lessons for this year!

Thanks for all advice. In case anyone else was thinking of using it, the nursery was lovely and DS seemed very happy there. We will book him back in next year too.

We stayed in Morzine a couple of seasons ago - absolutely loved the place.

Have a look at www.aiglonmorzine.com/index.php/about/morzine they have some good information about childcare/child friendly activities
