AOl and mumsnet no longer get on

For te past few days I've had a hard time using mumsnet on aol

It won't load any threads - or the list of topics. Nor will it let me post, a few carefully crafted comments have just vanished into the ether

I can access mn via internet explorer so it's clearly an aol problem. Tech, if you have any words of wisdowm I'd be very grateful

you can do all of that with Firefox webdude

MerlinsBeard · 16/04/2010 21:33

I just remembered that the AOL virus software thingumy was really efficient at finding errors. They were called AOLxyz ....

WickedWitchSouthWest · 16/04/2010 21:34

love all the firefox conversions

redwhiteandblue · 16/04/2010 22:58

{smile} at the web-geek invasion of mn

I will download firefox at some point, but it is more convenient for me to browse on aol. There was never a problem before with aol just started this past week and having upgraded to latest version has made no difference

Aol is useless but sadly my email address would be lost if I changed ISP

"sadly my email address would be lost if I changed ISP"

Unfortunately, even that's not guaranteed.

After 8 years with a mail address from UltraNet (my USA ISP) they were taken over and that e-mail address was then wiped.

I'd suggest getting an e-mail account with anyone other than an ISP, so you're able to change ISP if you wish.

(For a business, it makes most sense to get their own domain, whether .co.uk or .com, and in the past an AOL address was looked down on).

For mumofmonsters - I've not found a way to drag a tab from one Firefox window into another window. You can certainly move a tab into a new window on its own. (Mind you, it's the only thing I really liked from Chrome! If someone can explain how to bookmark all the tabs in one go, I'd be grateful. I often have 40 to 60 tabs open when browsing, depending on what I'm doing.)

Quattrocento · 17/04/2010 00:38

Oh I'm so glad someone else has had this problem.

Actually emailed MNHQ to see what the problem was.

You can get in via internet explorer though and ignore AOL.

Took me about a day to work that out ... DD would have got there in 30 seconds

differentnameforthis · 17/04/2010 00:51

WebDude, you can make a tab a new window in FF, by right clicking on the tab & selecting "open in new window' from the menu!

differentnameforthis · 17/04/2010 00:52

And, just tested it & you can drag & drop into the bar at the bottom to create a new window

differentnameforthis · 17/04/2010 00:54

And you can then drag & drop that new window to the end of the tab bar, to reinstate it as a tab!

MoneyNoPockets · 17/04/2010 00:54

got firefox, doing ok. have installed a new copy of AOL 9.5 and added desktop 10.1 but no joy

Gay40 · 17/04/2010 01:24

AOL 9.5 screwed everything up. I had to completely remove it from my laptop.

But I have just downloded Firefox. RESULT !

WebDude · 17/04/2010 04:07

I'll have to take your word for it, dnft, as I got

TypeError: dt.getData("application/x-moz-tabbrowser-tab").linkedBrowser is undefined

(and the tab I had dragged has just disappeared completely, not back to where it was...)

when I tried... Have to admit not having tried it until today (but only recently shifted this PC to v3.6.3 so it may not have worked with what I was using)..

MoneyNoPockets · 17/04/2010 11:47

So weird.

Couldn't log in this morning via AOL, so signed into My Mumsnet no problem then clicked talk, needed to log in, did so and 'shock, horro' am posting via AOL.

Have added 10.1 desktop to the 9.5 package.

Go figure.

mamas12 · 17/04/2010 11:53

I'm also having trouble via aol too. when will it be better??

MoneyNoPockets · 17/04/2010 14:47

I think that is like "how long is a piece of string" Mamas12.

differentnameforthis · 17/04/2010 15:06

'when will it be better' when you start using firefox!

WebDude · 20/04/2010 14:38

It could be awkward to test if they have no machine running the AOL browser. It's not quite like just downloading Safari (yuk) or some other browser off the web, after all.

Monty100 · 20/04/2010 23:08

I am loving Google Chrome

AOL is crap anyway lol.
