Tech - has there been a change to the menu system on the front page?

I now can't seem to use the blue menu thing on the front page - clicking does nothing and the little text box that comes up if you hover is miles above the actual area I'm hovering over.

I'm using Mozilla so sort of used to sites only being IE compatible (frustrating as it is) - has there been some update that's IE friendly only?

I can get into chat okay because I know the URL, but I wanted to have a look at recommended books bit for a bit of a spending spree and I can't navigate to the right section!!

I think he has... it was on one of the other Site Stuff threads yesterday (?) and was something to do with getting rid of Java. I find the menu works only if you wait for it to load completely and then the bars go yellow when you hover over them. Of course, I'm using IE though

Clicking on 'talk' doesn't seem to be working...

I'm getting to it through the 'subjects of the day' then 'active conversations'.

SoupDragon · 27/06/2003 18:48

It takes me through to the list of subjects. I've got the "recent posts" search bookmarked so I don't usually use the menus though.

Clicking on talk on the homepage doesn't seem to be working here either.

StripyMouse · 27/06/2003 20:13

Yep, I am having problems with the main menu as well - just as GeorginaA described, have tried waiting for it to load properly without clicking and no better. I too use a bookmark to avoid front page now..

I don't know if my PC has a problem or if it is something to do with this site, but over the last few days my machine has rebooted without warning and for no good reason 4 times. I know that 3 of these times have been just as I am loading up the front page on this site and I can't remember about the other occasion. Is it just coincidence or is there some software that is sending my PC funny? It is switched on from 6am until 11pm every day so it seems odd that it is only happening when I load the Mumsnet home page.

boyandgirl · 02/07/2003 14:22

The navigation buttons on the left of the homepage don't work and hovering the mouse over them gets a message "javascriptvoid(0)" at the bottom of the screen. They usually work after several refreshes, so I assumed that it must be my pc. What is IE?

runragged · 02/07/2003 20:58

The front page isn't working for me either, I have to right click on a subject of the day and say "open" to get in. Spent 5 days working that out!!

Hello all,

We had to change the front page menu as the old one was causing problems for people with brand new computers for boring technical/legal reasons not worth going into here.

The new one may not work correctly with very old browsers. If this becomes an issue we can change it again. One thing to watch. If you click the menus before they've finished drawing, they won't work - you just get a message in the status bar saying javascript:void(0). The menu is something we bought so there's a limit to what we can do to it. As I say, if it continues to cause trouble, we'll get rid.

Best wishes,
Tech

I thought there was a problem too ... but then I noticed that if I waited a little while before trying to click into talk then it would work. If the home page comes up and you click straight away on talk then I don't think it has finished loading up completely ....

I've been trying to look at the product reviews for ages and the menu bar just doesn't work. it's really frustrating. Is there any way to bypass the home page drop menu to get to them in the mean time? Btw our computer & software is only a few months old, so the browser is definitely not old, but still, definitely does not work!
