There was an article/interview with Justine in the Standard tonight and it said you're developing an app in conjunction with vodafone. So when and what eh?

JustineMumsnet · 29/06/2010 13:59

No the app isn't network specific - will work on all iphones. And yes once that's done we'll move on to android app.

We should also be in a position to introduce our mobile-friendly version of MN in a few weeks.

JustineMumsnet · 01/07/2010 08:33

Hello - it is quite spendy to develop. (circa £30k) - we are doing some cross promotion with Vodafone to help pay for it.
Re charging - not sure - we were thinking of incorporating ads (not intrusive ones). What do you think a reasonable charge would be? I haven't even seen an ipad yet, but am sure we'll get to that too at some point...

JustineMumsnet · 01/07/2010 11:45

I think we're most likely to stick with our current policy of free to use but with (non-intrusive) advertising.

But if we do one for the ipad then we might have to charge!

Well it will be a Talk app first and foremost to start with - so when you arrive it will signpost the most popular Talk pages - Talk home, Active convs, Threads I'm on etc not all the other MN stuff - and it will not have the 3rd column down the right of the page - currently displaying Talk discussions of day, ads, Twitter box etc

We'll post a fuller spec up for folks to comment on soonest.

A bit more detail, as promised:

App will consist of a home page with links to the most common functions of Talk - Threads I'm, Threads I'm Watch, Topic List, Active Convos. There will also be some space for some some user-selected topics. You will be able to browse the topic list a category at a time.

The threads themselves will be displayed in a similar way to the web version now. There will be no columns, but there will be a couple of ads in the run of the page.

Posting will be as now, but somewhat simplified - the instructions for use of emoticons won't be there for example, or at least not permanently but might be available from a link. You will be able to subscribe to threads that interest you. There won't be functions to exclude threads or topics, nor will some of the customise options be there - there will only be a single colour scheme (based on Mumsnet New), you won't be able to say how many posts per page, etc. but you will be able to choose if you read up or down the thread chronology.

There will probably be a search function though possibly not in the first version.

Hope that makes sense - we are trying to balance simplicity with functionality (and speed of development)
