So... it's our tenth birthday and we're having a party to celebrate on March 2nd. And seeing as we can't possibly fit you all in, we thought it would be nice to have a competition to have 10 Mumsnetters (plus partners) come along. As part of the prize we'll put you up in a London hotel, dress you in Boden (natch) and send you out to dinner at Pizza Express too. Full details here.

All you've got to do is to write a haiku (and we know how good you are at those) which sums up Mumsnet. And the 10 best will win. Simples.

And lest you think we might not pick the right winners, we've got Carol-Ann Duffy, Poet Laureate, to judge them for us. So for all those of you who enjoy writing in verse, here's your chance to shine.

Good luck.

Hassled: no limit on the number of entries. Haiku away as much as you like.

TigerFeet: congrats on being the first to spot our deliberate mistake and on telling us so in haiku, no less. Your prize is, erm, to bask in the glory of seeing the closing date corrected...

HelenMumsnet · 15/02/2010 15:20

Hello. Just a little announcement to say that, after a leetle protest from non-UK-resident MNers, we have decided that this competition should be thrown open to all MNers, regardless of where you live.

BUT, obviously, if you win, you will have to get yourself from Timbuktu (or wherever) to London in time for the party. (They may be Golden Tickets but they don't include airfares!)

Because of this last-minute change, we're extending the closing date till midnight on Wednesday Feb 17th.

So, hurry, hurry: you have two more days to get those haikus in - wherever in the world you are.

Herewith I'm posting
To let Mumsnetters know that
The comp is now closed.

(and actually did so at midnight last night )

Haiku

So we've heard back from Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy with regards to your poems.
She asked us to pass on that she was "impressed by the clarity and wit of the entries."

Here are the ten Haiku that she chose (in no particular order)

Modern heroines
wicked queens with golden hearts
Mumsnet is legend (ApplesinmyPocket)

Floating in nothing
The net catches me, saves me,
All I need to know. (BuzzingNoise)

Pieces of patchwork
We stitch ourselves together
Bound by common threads. (Pofacedagain)

Mumsnet speaks, leaders
Tremble. Their untruths crumble
Like biscuits in tea. (vezzie)

Long-Distance Mothers
Shed their loneliness like skins
Littering the floor. (PopeSusanIV)

Internet strangers
united as one, support
anonymous friends. (Rubyrubyruby)

In internet times
Mumsnetters are the neighbours
I no longer know. (nighbynight)

Your posts set me straight.
Threads of life interweaving
On the world wide web (frakkinaround)

Events surprised us:
Births, deaths, and the rest of it.
Here we can debrief (ZephirineDrouhin)

Words that I can't say
to my mother or my love,
written to strangers. (choosyfloosy)
Winners, you should have had an email from us but we're posting here too to announce:
Please email [email protected] with HAIKU WINNER in subject line with your RL name, address, and a contact phone number
in the meantime, peruse the Boden catalogue and start making babysitting arrangements for next Tuesday 2 March for the party!

OliviaMumsnet · 22/02/2010 21:28

Pofaced/popesusan -thanks for letting us know.

Ms Duffy actually picked reserves in case of any problems and we'll be publishing those in the "commended section"(get us, all literary like) later in the week once we've heard from all the winners.

OliviaMumsnet · 22/02/2010 21:30

Vezzie, get thee to S&B, they will sort you out in the boden sizing stakes

OliviaMumsnet · 22/02/2010 22:02

Oops. How remiss I am.
I did not list the winners.
In perfect haiku.

OliviaMumsnet · 22/02/2010 22:30

Ooh purple uggs, get you, apples
Pofaced our lovely frirnds Boden are going to sort out delivery.

Await the email
And all will become clearer
It will come quite soon.

?
Whatever happened to iambic pentameter?

OliviaMumsnet · 23/02/2010 12:43

Hello again

Just to let you all know where we're at: -
Carol Ann also chose some runners-up/reserves.
Just as well because of pofaced/popesusan's identity crisis and frakkinaround's gloriously tropical life (we are so sorry for short notice, frakkin) we can announce that two of them have been elevated to Golden Ticket Winner status.

They are:

Threads of silky speech.
We are spiders. We are flies
In our safety net. (Anguis)

It takes a village
to raise a child and Mumsnet
to raise a mother. (Bumperlicious)

So we hope they'll be joining us next week.
