Hmmm, interesting article on LabourList about targetting sites like MN:
link
Without being unduly cynical, I wouldn't be surprised if labour (and probably tory) "activists" were all over Mumsnet trying to drum up support. Mums are, after all, a key demographic.
Some of the posts over the last few days on MN do seem to be suspiciously close to the party line.... "

Now, there's going to be an election soon and I don't want to see activists from ANY party HQs rolling up under assumed names.

Is there any hope that MN can block the IP addresses of the party HQs so they can't propagandise from their rapid rebuttal units?

If not, I think I might be off for the duration.

Blimey, HH, what's to police?

It doesn't seem remotely unreasonable to follow the standard MN trolling policy and drop suspicious names over to MNHQ, if they are willing to have a quick look to see if, for example, there is one address producing lots of one-off partisan posts under a series of names.

That would only result in action if the poster's behaviour was clearly of the same pattern as social marketers who have been banned from the site before (I think this has happened e.g. the Halibornge Probiotic crew). Obviously, in most cases it won't be remotely clear that someone is abusing the site and no action would be taken. That can't make it wrong to try if only because making the effort helps to assert that it is wrong to engage in party political social marketing/word-of-mouth advertising, whatever they call it.
