Why does "threads I'm on" not give me all the threads I'm on?

PeachesMcLean · 19/10/2009 19:27

As in, my thing under "customise" says 7 days but it doesn't give me all of them.

I was on a very interesting and important thread with Slubber t'other day and it's not there.

But my random comment on a central heating thread the same day is there.

Why?

whomovedmychocolate · 19/10/2009 19:32

Mine only gives me the last three days regardless of how it is set up - perhaps MNHQ deleted the other threads though, they've been doing that a lot lately.

differentWitch · 19/10/2009 19:33

do you have 51 threads in active? that's the maximum I beleive.

PeachesMcLean · 19/10/2009 19:36

Well, it's only showing 12 threads at the moment, so i don't think it's full.

And certainly one I looked for is still there, hasn't been deleted. i got to it through Search.

Is it just me?

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 19/10/2009 19:37

Nope. I don't get all mine and I also get stuff shoved down the bottom with a big gap between (did you scroll down btw)? I've complained to MNHQ but I suspect it may be 'bloody mac people, of course it doesn't work for them' in my case.

QueenOfFrighteningEveryone · 19/10/2009 19:38

Oh I was going to start the same thread!

Mine is set to the maximum time (21 days I think) but only shows a selection from the last 7

sunmonkey · 19/10/2009 19:39

No some of mine are missing too, was just wondering why aswell. Thought maybe ds was bashing keys and deleted/hid them, but seems not

PeachesMcLean · 19/10/2009 19:40

Hmm, not on Mac either.

Hello
Afraid to say erm, I dunno
but I'll have a looky look in a mo.

whomovedmychocolate · 19/10/2009 20:39

Olivia - is it possible that threads I'm on only show up if they are in my preferred topics list? I only ask because I quite often post on thing that are ignored festering on the unanswered list which are in topics I'd never normally post on or read (but I feel sorry for the poster). Perhaps it's helpfully hiding them on threads I'm on? IYSWIM (probably not actually, I'm not sure that even made sense to me)

JackBauWooohooohoowaaer · 19/10/2009 20:56

I have this too, I started a thread a few days ago and it isn't in my 'Threads I'm on' or my 'Threads I started' lists.

I have foudn it through searching so it's stil there. veyr weird.

OliviaMumsnet · 19/10/2009 21:24

hmm.
Possibly
[nods sagely]
[steeples fingers]

PeachesMcLean · 19/10/2009 21:34

The thread I mentioned below was in chat. Unless you have a topic for leaf cutter ants which I've hidden at some stage

OP posts:
OliviaMumsnet · 19/10/2009 21:40

wmmc I think you've I've cracked it - in your customise options, under the
Put "hide" link on Active Convs?
Threads I'm On - days to check

There's a dropdown for
Display all topics? - make sure it says YES.
Hope that works

PeachesMcLean · 19/10/2009 21:51

Nah, sorry.

Hmm.

If I use Search I find I've been on 25 threads since last monday. So that's 8 days. But if I change customise to 8 days, I still only get 15.

and I've changed the display all topics thing to Yes and the subjects I've posted in aren't in my "keep out of active convos" thing.

Oh well. Mystery.

OP posts:
JackBauWooohooohoowaaer · 19/10/2009 22:02

Nah for me either, I don't hide any topics.

Sorry

whomovedmychocolate · 19/10/2009 22:04

Um no, that's not it

I think your site is just a bit slow to load and is only loading half the page tbh. I also think the problem is in the element loading order, because the ads etc are loading first then content is populated on the fly, when the server is under pressure, the links are not being assimilated correctly or the page is autorefreshing before that point and cutting them off.

You can check this out by getting whoever is on at your lowest traffic point to see if the problem goes away.

Or you could run shuddering to the coffee machine muttering about 'fecking geeks' - that would work too

OliviaMumsnet · 19/10/2009 22:45

Okey dokes -I'm clearly out of my depth here so I'll find someone cleverer who knows.

PeachesMcLean · 19/10/2009 23:04

But if it was something to do with loading speed, I wouldn't get a very specific

"Threads I'm on
15 have messages"

showing at the top. Not

"25 have messages but your laptop can only be arsed to show you some of them"

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 20/10/2009 10:14

peaches - now that depends entirely when in the compilation of the threads the calculation is done. If it is '15 (that I have loaded correctly) have messages' it would indeed show as 15 or if it calculated at the end of loading it would be the right number, if you see what I mean.

I think we've broken MN with our inane wittering and Justine will be after us with her big stick

HelenMumsnet · 20/10/2009 12:44

Hello. We've asked the Techs to take a look at this for you.

YetMoreTech · 20/10/2009 16:03

PML,

I'm afraid the answer to the question is pretty dull! Essentially the way the system is designed it doesn't have ready access to some older messages when gathering the list of threads you're on. We'll give some thought to how it can be changed, but I am fearful it might be quite some upheaval and thus take quite some time.

Apologies.

Slubberdegullion · 20/10/2009 16:08

Interesting,

Peaches, I too could not see the leaf cutter ant thread in threads I'm on. I had to search for it in the archives.

Maybe there is a bug in the system.

LOLOLOL

no

seriously
[serious face]

It was quite annoying. There was some serious knowledge sharing going on there and I might have missed it.

whomovedmychocolate · 20/10/2009 18:49

Yetmoretech - that's what I said . Actually as a workaround you could always make a Google call and include the posters name and then return that - on the other hand, we could just get a life and stop worrying about missing everyone applauding our oh so very witty posts

PeachesMcLean · 20/10/2009 20:21

Arf at bug in the system

Apologies Slubber, I was so preoccupied by the Threads i'm on confusion, I didn't get chance to look for your fascinating Anderton Boat Lift thread. Perhaps I could start one on The Salt Museum, which I believe is int he same parts, and must be the makings of a fascinating day out. Surely.

I'm still on only 15 threads today. Will check I havne't got something funny on Customoise...

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 21/10/2009 10:14

FEAR NOT Peaches.

The Anderton Boat Lift thread is yet to be.

I'm saving it up, but will check you are aboard the good ship MN before commencing.
