MN HQ -- MN for mobile / blackberry / iphone

star6 · 22/05/2009 21:45

I've recently posted this in my post natal thread as a thought to request to MN HQ
I would be able to double my usage of this site if they could create MN for mobile site as it currently takes AGES to post on my blackberry as it is currently. Anyone support this? Is it possible HQ?

I used to browse MN on my phone alot. I probably spent more time on mobile than on pc.
However, when the site changed earlier this year it really screwed the experience up, as my blackberry does not support Java (and there aren't that many mobiles that do) and you now need that to login.
Previously you could search and look at nearly all the pages without logging in, but now that is restricted.

MN TOWERS - the future of the internet is MOBILE and the future is already here- Please make it easier for us!!!!

If you make an iphone app you had better make a Blackberry one

Nice to see an answer from MN. There was a thread a while ago about this but we didn't get a response iirc .

I have an Iphone and a BlackBerry [smug emoticon].

Hello all,
We're going to look at developing a "mobile device friendly" version of MN that would work well for both iphones and blackberries (and uncle tom cobley and all)

Watch this space! (but do give us a few weeks)

JohnnyTwoHats · 28/05/2009 22:43

That's just greedy.

lowrib · 28/05/2009 22:48

I sometimes try to look at MN -when- -I- -can't- -wait- -to- -see- -what- -happens- -next- to pass time in the car (as a passenger, not a driver!) but usually give up - it's really clunky and won't show large threads.

I'd love a phone friendly version, great to hear it's on its way

DottyDot · 28/05/2009 22:49

ooh fab! I've got a palm thingy but MN is very slow on it and it regularly crashes the whole thing (obv doesn't stop me - just have the take the battery out and put back in again).

but not breaking work equipment would be good (as would only using it for work but hey, they can't have everything...).

lowrib · 28/05/2009 22:49

Oops I see I should have used double the hyphens

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/05/2009 21:19

That's great news Justine. Thank you.

nannynick · 29/05/2009 21:25

Mumsnet used to do RSS feeds, so you could use a feed reader such as Google Reader. Alas I can't find the feeds anymore.

While Mumsnets develops a Mobile friendly version, have you tried out Google Mobilzer it will convert Mumsnet Talk pages for mobile device display. It isn't pretty and you get all the right sidebar stuff first (wonders if Tech could change the layout so that the Left column DIV was displayed first?) but it does display Mumsnet Talk messages in a quicker to download format. So works-ish for viewing message threads.

My preferred mobile browser currently is Opera Mini, so if a version could be done for that it would be great.

Brilliant news hopefully no more scrolling side to side ans eye strain!

JohnnyTwoHats · 02/07/2009 17:33

Any news on this yet?

JustineMumsnet · 03/07/2009 10:15

It's on BigTech's to do list - will prod him and get him to give you a rough eta. (Fear it might be a wee bit complicated though)

JohnnyTwoHats · 03/07/2009 18:11

Thanks

Even an RSS feed would be good.

RustyBear · 06/07/2009 19:52

Would really appreciate it, we need it even more now that your MN TV thing is here- it tries to install Flash on my iPhone every time I open a page & holds everything up until it figures out that it can't.....

JohnnyTwoHats · 11/07/2009 18:16

bump

NormaSknockers · 12/07/2009 07:35

OOooo that would be fab I've got the Nokia 5800 & it takes soooooooooooooooooooo long for it load up!

CakeandRoses · 12/06/2010 23:52

Did the mobile app ever happen? No eta or update on here that I can see.

HelenMumsnet · 12/06/2010 23:54

Hello. Things are definitely afoot on the app front but not sure sure how close to being a reality.

Will try to check for you when we're all back in the office next week...

PrettyCandles · 13/06/2010 00:00

I have no problems with MN on my iPhone. I prooably MN on my phone now more than on my PC. If I'm on WiFi then it generally loads and refereshes reasonable speedily, but is a lot slower otherwise. I've nto come actross a thread that's too big for it, yet.

I turn my phone on its side and can get the whole width of the page in just about readable size - the text is readable, only the sidebar stuff is too small for comfort.

I'm not sure how an app would be better.

But then, I've got an iPhone, not a BB or Samsung

CakeandRoses · 13/06/2010 00:05

I'm on a blackberry (not right now, I'm on my Mac or I wouldn't be able to post) and it's utter hell, can't post, search or anything other than lurk!

Don't care about a fancy app TBH, just want MN to work on my BB full-stop!

FlameOverThinks · 13/06/2010 00:06

seriously. this thread is 12 months old and I am still no closer to you gits giving me an iphone.
