well i demand to know the gossip.

otherwise i shall cry

fryalot · 11/02/2009 10:50

spill the gossip or I'll play them...

ohmyachinghead · 11/02/2009 10:52

there isn't really any gossip just the embarrassment of drunkenness with people you don't really know (although it feel like you do!) and getting home to be told off by your 7 year old for "smelling funny"

fryalot · 11/02/2009 10:56

well in that case, make some up!!!!

dontcha realise we have a thirst for knowledge?

ouch

Threadworm · 11/02/2009 11:18

Surely it wasn't that drunken was it? Surely you were all concentrating on being incisive literary chatterati? I thought that was the law at book launches.

SixSpot · 11/02/2009 11:21

Phono caught her thumb in a tube door!!!

Ouchy ouchy ouchy ouchy ouch!

Do you know, in all my years (very many years) of drunkenly negotiating public transport in London, I've never managed to do that?

'kin ell

sounds 'orrible

my BIL once tumbled head over heels all the way down the escalator at holborn

long escalator, that one

CreativeZen · 11/02/2009 11:25

Did you even feel it at the time? Surely the alcohol would have deadened any such feeling

onebatmother · 11/02/2009 11:26

after the incisive chatterati-ing there was more drinking and I neglected to line my stomach first. Neither with food nor Kevlar which possibly was what was required.

And phono has such teeny delicate thumbs, she must have been holding them recklessly close to the door in order to achieve that.

Actually that really does sound quite painful, phono. Are you going to have to wear one of those interesting thumb bandage things with straps that always look slightly rude?

Good lord, just googled to show you and got this

That would be embarrassing, I think.

onebatmother · 11/02/2009 11:33

thumb sheath is not good look

Well, it's definitely glove weather, so that should help.

ruty · 11/02/2009 11:45

could you sue Boris Johnson perhaps?

Carmenere · 11/02/2009 11:45

I can verify that Phonos thumb was actually squashed flat and that it isn't broken is a miracle. I really did think we were going to have to go to A&E. You poor, poor thing.
it was a lovely evening, as glamorous and erudite as you would expect
MP was the star of the show, and graciously signed autographs all night and didn't complain once.

SixSpot · 11/02/2009 11:46

Wish I'd come, I've never been to a book launch...

ghosty · 11/02/2009 11:47

My mate got her head stuck in the door of the tube once. She was being nosey and watching a fight going on down the platform and didn't notice the 'Mind the doors' announcement. She then spent a panicky few seconds trying to free herself and spent the next few stops trying to look nonchalant while avoiding eye contact with other passengers who were clearly trying not to laugh. It wasn't until she got home that she found out she had a huge black mark all down her face and neck (from the rubber of the doors) because her flatmate said, "What the hell did you do? Get your head stuck in the tube doors or summink?"
Vair vair funny
