Reporting - I give up

Even a cross-eyed baboon could see that some threads are suspect, but nope, they get reported, they stay up. Total waste of time.

Reporting is a total lottery ime.
But I agree that reporting suspect threads is usually a waste of time. I do wonder when a thread is eventually deleted what it is that prompts MN to take action. Whether it is the sheer number of reports or what.

You have to hope they stray into bereavement (well, you don't, but ykwim). That is the only recourse. I have reported obvious and returning trolls but it wasn't until they posted in a sensitive topic that they were removed. I just hide any thread that I know is sus. Much calmer!

Sidebeforeself · 19/10/2026 18:29

And yet if you even hint someone isn’t genuine , it’s your post that gets deleted!!!

I have reported threads for a long time, but not any more. All I get back these days is a generic 'we looked at it and can't see anything wrong' type response. Well, they ain't looking hard enough. The one I reported earlier today was the last straw.

I reported someone advertising the other day but apart from that I don’t remember when I last reported something. It’s ‘their’ website, not mine, if they’re happy with how it’s run and the reputation it has and the articles about their AI useage, then who am I to try to stop it?

“But please carry on reporting posts to us”

🙄

What was wrong?

Looking at it today, there’s a definite sense of people being here to stir up trouble and so on, but that’s probably the bread and butter of an Internet forum to some extent.

Hello @sherbetlemonade we don't want you to have the impression it's not worth your time reporting to us as it absolutely is and we very much appreciate it. We'll take a look at your reports and will get in touch shortly.

It’s the inconsistency.

Some posts you leave up even if they’re really distressing to people.

Plus, the classic lemon of a post you left up for weeks despite multiple reports, when someone said peaches cure cancer or something.

I don’t bother any more either.
