Could Mumsnet clarify the purpose of the sex and gender forum?

Can we get some clarification on the actual "purpose" of the sex and gender forum, please?

Many members on there seem to allude to it being for GC people rather than to discuss issues related to gender and sex. They make posts like this one:

"and the overall purpose of the sub forum."

What is this "overall purpose" that some members seem to be privy to and isn't outlined in the group title?

I can show various other posts by regular members who seem sure of the same thing. I think it would help all of us if we understood what the site/staff intended its purpose to be.

Ooo just seen beckys reply

seems to be fair enough

Its very childish to claim you arent allowed to say stuff when what you mean is you get disagreed with

If it wasnt allowed, it would be deleted

If it isnt deleted, it's allowed.

I see the OP has not returned after @BeckyAMumsnet posted her response.

Hopefully the OP is satisfied now that BeckyMN posted pretty much exactly what Lougle quoted from Justine years ago and what loads of us have been saying.

But I doubt it.

I'm sure @Lexibletheflexible is very happy that @BeckyAMumsnet answered the ridiculous straw man question they came up with to disparage one poster on FWR.

Becky basically clarified that the info at the top of the subgroup is correct, but given the OP's commitment to their straw man I'm sure they'll present this as a mighty victory.

Ah, also just seen.
You can throw that in the face of the (fictional) posters who told you you weren't allowed to post, OP! Congratulations!

Oh wait, all the information was right there from before you began this ridiculous charade.

I am asking staff, not other users. The other users are basically interfering and trying to dominate the thread which shows more about their character and the way GC views are endorsed here than anything else..staff still havent responded.

Do you always see people who disagree with you as ‘trying to dominate’? You could have emailed HQ to ask the question. You could have dealt with it on any one of the threads on the Sex and Gender board. But instead you post on a public board - presumably in the hope of finding like minded people.

People disagreeing with you within the rules on a public forum is perfectly reasonable. Just hide the sex and gender board if you don’t like it.

FWR boards take no prisoners and it may be inconvenient that some women have a different view to you, OP, and that they don’t follow the social conditioning of being nice for the sake of it. They arent motivated by hate, but the desire to protect others. I think they are awesome, lurking on that board opened my eyes to a lot of things.

Lougle · 15/09/2026 14:54

@Lexibletheflexible why don't you ask MNHQ to start a 'Gender Affirming Discussions' board? See how popular it is.

And one I've seen used by trans people and TRAs far more than by Gender Critical Feminists.

To be fair, I think they use it ironically when paraphrasing what [they believe] Gender Critical Feminists think. But still, other than that post I've never seen Gender Critical Feminists actually using it.

@Shedmistress it did jar, enough that I considered saying something, but as I said I've seen TRAs use it and the thread moved past without comment so I decided it must be ok and I was over-sensitive.

Well if your job takes issue with your views, and they find out you're posting them here, you'll still be in trouble at work. You're only safe because they don't know you're here. Same with people who post racism on the internet under anonymous names. Theyre only safe until their anonymity is compromised.

You sound an awful lot like you're directly comparing the view that men can't turn into women and that women should have rights to assembly without men, with the view that some colours of skin make people inferior.

Because she got her answer. You had to read through loads of defensive replies to get there right enough. It was like a swarm of locusts.

The OP got their answer on page 4 - and then continued posting. Then nothing once @BeckyAMumsnet confirmed that the answer on page 4 was as it had always been. Just think how much typing time the OP (and reading time you) could have saved if they had just said ' thanks for confirming that' on page 4 or emailed MN directly, as was suggested on several occasions.

Thank you, that post will be very helpful to refer to next time sometime starts a thread about the nasty tone of Gender Critical Feminists on MN.

What I'd mostly like to know if it is a place to perpetuate, promote and nurture GC views or a place where users discuss issues related to gender, irrespective of their stance on gender and trans related issues?

And of course sex, which after the Supreme Court judgment can't be ignored or sidelined. 😉

Thought everyone knew that.

Why is my cat in your garden? Send him home, would you? Cheers.
