Why was the thread about the violence at the Reform conference deleted?

Any chance of a response please mnhq? I was thinking of starting a thread on the violence, but pointless if it will be deleted.

Obviously it was deleted because someone reported the ageist abuse. Start one without that, and you will be fine. The event has already been discussed on other threads anyway, though. Is there much more to say? It happened it was bad and presumably the police are investigating.

There was some ageism which could have been deleted rather than the whole thread pulled.

The ageism couldn't really be deleted as it was in the OP, then all the way through. The thread lost all sense because of the blatant ageism

The thread was definitely derailed by accusations of ageism.

Hi all. Thanks for giving us the chance to look again at the moderation here. First off, our generic deletion message wasn’t good enough. We should have explained the decision properly at the time, and we’re sorry we didn’t.

For the avoidance of doubt, the thread wasn’t deleted because it criticised Reform. There’s no shortage of criticism of Reform - or any political party - on Mumsnet, as a quick look at Active will confirm, and there’s no rule against it.

The thread began with a sweeping, ageist insult and quickly became dominated by personal attacks. Opening posts set the terms of a conversation and, while they certainly don’t need to be neutral, they do need to leave some room for disagreement without those who take a different view immediately being attacked or cast as defenders of violence. This one left very little prospect of a worthwhile discussion.

By the time we reviewed it, there wasn’t a viable thread left to preserve by removing one or two posts, so we took it down.

I was one of the people who reported a reply on it, and I was disappointed to see it deleted but I understand it might but have been possible to preserve it by the time it was looked at. It was ok when I sent the report but I imagine it moved fast.

The attitude of the OP and others on that thread were awful. As bad as Reform tbh.
