What's with the crypto casino ads all over the site?

You know crypto casinos a) aren't licensed in the UK b) do not allow problem gamblers to self-exclude so can be extremely dangerous to those struggling with addiction, right?

Most of the ads are Google ads - mumsnet doesn’t choose what goes there, they just make the space available and Google chooses what to populate it with on YOUR browser - so we all see different ads. Currently I’ve got mobile phone companies which makes sense as I helped my dad pick a new phone last week.

you can tell it’s a Google ad as it has a little blue triangle/arrow laid over it. Click on that and you can tell Google you don’t want to see ads from similar companies any more

I keep getting ads now for gun control in the US which is bizarre. I'm not in the US and have a UK IP address ,(so it's a waste of the advertiser's money to serve up ads for a campaign to contact my local congressman) nor would that have been based on my history.

I'm pretty familiar with how digital ads work, including cookie tracking - I use Firefox on my phone which automatically blocks many trackers! Mumsnet can still tell the companies serving ads not to feature ones in certain categories...otherwise we'd get adult content and some of the weird shite I've seen on forums elsewhere.

Thanks @YouHaveAnArse for flagging this, and you're absolutely right to call it out. These ads definitely shouldn't be on the site.

If you spot them again, could you grab a screenshot and send us the click-through link (CTL) from the ad? That way we can track it down directly and get it blocked properly.
