I’m concerned about a thread which is about the sexual coercion of women

I recently reported a thread in the relationships section titled “Was I wrong for never telling my wife that I used to visit sex workers before we met?”. I believe several other users reported it as well. It appeared to be hidden for a short period, but has since been reinstated.

The OP is describing and justifying situations in which women were coerced into having sex through payment. Many of us consider this to constitute rape and it clearly has the potential to cause distress to posters, particularly given MN’s predominantly female user base.

the OP is deliberately goading and antagonising us by repeatedly posting this content. I appreciate the importance of open discussion, but I do not believe this thread is being conducted in good faith, and I am concerned and disappointed by the fact that it has been allowed to stand by MNHQ.

Disgusting and disgraceful, what is wrong with MN, not to ban thus at the very least

Hi OP

Thanks for sharing your concerns.

We did review the thread carefully before reinstating it. While this is a subject people understandably feel very strongly about, the thread itself does not breach our talk guidelines. We’ve left it up because it is generating substantial good-faith discussion and challenge from other users, rather than simply functioning as a platform for the OP’s views.

We're keeping a close watch on the situation today and discussing it further at MNHQ. Please continue to report any concerns to us using the report button.

Ah okay... so it doesn't break your own "not in the spirit of mumsnet" then. If this thread doesn't then nothing should from now on.

It seems rage bait threads are allowed on MN these days.

One of the rules in the MN talk guidelines is no “deliberately inflammatory behaviour”. The OP in question is quite clearly posting in a deliberately inflammatory way in order to cause upset. With that in mind, why was it decided that he hasn’t breached the talk guidelines?
