If we didn’t have Mumsnet, which then influenced more powerful arenas in the media and politics, then Theresa May’s Tory gov would have brought inSelf ID which they were consulted on. Without a doubt.
Thank you to the MN owners for keeping the site accessible to women to talk (albeit with very very strict rules on what they could say,) when it was very difficult to do so elsewhere.
Now I wish the owners would leave the site as a not for profit legacy for women - imagine what a resource that would be. It’s barely usable due to the ads that are allowed on here affecting the usability of the site. I don’t want women to have to stop using MN. A place for women to (more relatively then elsewhere) freely talk to each other anonymously has kept many women here. I want MN to stay here for the coming generations of women and mothers but that would require investing profits back into the business, rather than extracting them for private individuals and not investing enough in the site. Sorry I would much rather be posting unqualified praise because the site has allowed women to get together which has been very powerful, but the site has genuinely become much harder to use with constant page reloading and skipping to the top of the page before the one that you’re reading.
