To suggest a limit on the length of thread titles?

I agree. I’d ask for this to be moved to site stuff. MN actually monitor the threads there - they only see the other ones when they get reported.

There's no winning really, if there's not enough information in the title people on the thread complain or say there should be a trigger warning, now you're complaining the titles are too long 🤷🏽‍♀️

I think thread titles set out what an OP wants from the thread:

”Need school trousers but my son is a difficult size”
”Planting bulbs to replace a box hedge”
”AIBU to set fire to my neighbour’s shed?”

A really long title makes me think the OP doesn’t know what she wants from the thread.

I absolutely agree.

There have been previous threads about this.

I agree some threads need to include a trigger warning. But other than that I much prefer a very brief title. I'm much more likely to open the thread up and read it to find out what it's about.

The threads with the very long litle I tend not to bother even opening up to read because they are just so irritating.

Thanks, @iCod - and we do see what you mean. Some thread titles do like to take the scenic route. We’re all for context, obviously, but longer titles may make things harder to read, especially on mobile/app.

We’ll raise the character-limit idea at MNHQ. In the meantime, leave poor Sarah alone, she has a lot going on.
